How We Review Slots

Slot Review Methodology

Each slot reviewed on this site is evaluated against six criteria, each weighted in the final star rating:

  • RTP (25%): We verify the advertised RTP against the operator paytable at three different UKGC-licensed sites. Where reduced RTP versions exist we note all variants. RTP is the single most important long-term factor for informed slot selection.
  • Volatility Accuracy (20%): Provider-declared volatility is compared to observed win frequency and distribution from play sessions. Some titles are marketed as "medium" volatility but perform as high.
  • Feature Mechanics (20%): Quality and depth of the bonus feature. A free spins round with an unlimited win multiplier scores higher than a flat-multiplier feature. Buy Bonus availability and pricing are noted.
  • Max Win Potential (15%): Evaluated relative to stake — a 100,000x max win at £0.10 stakes is more accessible than a 50,000x max win requiring £1 minimum stake. The mechanics required to achieve max win are analysed.
  • Base Game Experience (10%): Win frequency, hit rate, and engagement quality in the base game before any feature trigger.
  • Availability and Access (10%): How widely available the title is across our tested 10 operators. Titles exclusive to one or two operators score lower on accessibility.

Operator Review Methodology

Operators are scored on five criteria. All testing involves real money deposits:

  • Average Catalogue RTP: Measured from the published RTP of the top 50 most-played titles at that operator. Operators running reduced RTP variants without clear disclosure are penalised.
  • Withdrawal Speed: Measured from withdrawal request submission to funds credited to a Visa debit card. Average is taken from three separate withdrawal tests over a minimum 4-week period.
  • Bonus EV: Calculated using our formula: Bonus − (Wagering × Bonus × House Edge). Under the January 2026 UKGC 10x cap, a £50 bonus at 10x wagering with 96% RTP = +£30 EV. We calculate this for the actual current welcome offer.
  • Slot Catalogue Depth: Total number of live slot titles, provider breadth, and availability of high-volatility specialist titles (Nolimit City, Hacksaw Gaming) which are not universally distributed.
  • Customer Experience: KYC process, customer support response time, mobile UX quality.

Data Sources

RTP data: Official provider game sheets, verified against in-game paytable at UKGC-licensed operators. Withdrawal data: Personal testing with documented timestamps. Bonus terms: Operator T&Cs at time of review, noted with review date for accuracy. Catalogue size: Direct count from operator lobby or API data where available.
