PlayOJO verification confirms who you are and that your account details match, using up to three documents: photo ID, a recent proof of address and, if you pay by card, a masked photo of that card. Documents go in through the Upload Documents tab in My Account, not by email, and PlayOJO says they are usually checked in under 12 hours.
PlayOJO may ask for photo ID, a proof of address from the last 3 months, and the front of any bank card you deposit with.
Images must be in colour, valid and uncropped; on a card, only the first 4 and last 4 digits should show.
Upload through My Account > Upload Documents; PlayOJO’s help page says documents aren’t accepted by email.
Checks usually take under 12 hours; contact the OJO Crew if you’ve heard nothing after 48 hours.

How PlayOJO verification works
There are two layers. The first is the identity and age check every UK-licensed site must run before you gamble, which usually happens electronically from the details you enter at sign-up. The second is document verification: PlayOJO’s uploading documents page says it asks for documents occasionally, to confirm your identity and that your details match, and recommends uploading them early so your play isn’t interrupted.
PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, which holds UKGC account 39326 and also has a Malta Gaming Authority licence. The rules on this page are PlayOJO’s published requirements; a Gambling Commission rule since May 2019 sits underneath them, requiring age and identity checks before anyone can gamble, including on free-to-play games. Our age checks on slot sites guide explains that rule.
Why PlayOJO asks for documents
Document checks protect three things at once. They confirm the person playing is an adult and the account holder; they let the operator meet anti-money laundering law; and they support the Gambling Commission’s expectations on affordability checks. PlayOJO’s help page specifically says you may be asked for documents after your first withdrawal request or during affordability checks.
The card check exists for a different reason: confirming that the card used to deposit belongs to you. Since 2020, UK gambling deposits can’t be made by credit card, so card checks are about ownership of a debit card rather than the type of card. You can read the general background in our KYC glossary entry.
The three documents PlayOJO may ask for
PlayOJO lists three document types, each with its own checklist. You won’t always need all three: the card image only applies if you deposit with a bank card.
Document
Accepted types
Must be
Proof of ID
Passport, driving licence or government-issued ID card
In colour, valid, showing a clear photo and signature, no cut-off edges
Proof of address
Gas, water or electricity bill, or a bank statement
In colour, in your name, showing your address and the company or bank logo, issued within the last 3 months
Bank card
The front of each card you deposit with
In colour, first 4 and last 4 digits visible, middle 8 covered, no cut-off edges
PlayOJO’s address list is shorter than at some other sites: it names utility bills and bank statements. If neither is in your name, ask the OJO Crew what else they will accept before uploading. Our slot site verification documents guide compares accepted documents across UK sites.
Colour, in date, no cut edges: getting PlayOJO’s photo rules right
Most PlayOJO rejections come down to image quality rather than the wrong document, because the published rules are strict on presentation. Each rule has a practical reason: colour shows security features such as holograms, uncropped edges show the document hasn’t been altered, and the logo on a bill shows who issued it.
Use the phone camera, not a black-and-white photocopy or a scan of one.
Leave a margin of background on all four sides so no edge is cut off.
Avoid flash glare across the photo or the text; daylight from a window works well.
For an online bank statement, make sure the screenshot or PDF shows the bank’s logo, your name, your address and the date.
Check that the ID is in date; an expired document fails the “valid” rule.
How to cover your bank card for PlayOJO card verification
A 16-digit card number shown as 4921 •••• •••• 1234 is what PlayOJO wants: the first 4 digits and the last 4 visible, with the 8 in the middle hidden. Only the front of the card is requested, and PlayOJO says you only need to do this once per card.
Place the card face up on a plain surface.
Cover the middle 8 digits with a strip of paper or a sticky note, leaving the first 4 and last 4 visible.
Make sure your name and the expiry date remain readable and no edge of the card is cut off.
Photograph it in colour and upload it under Upload Documents in My Account.
Reuse the same card for future deposits to avoid repeating the check.
According to the same help page, an unverified account can hold up to two non-verified cards, so adding a third card is one point at which a card check becomes unavoidable. Never send the back of the card or the three-digit security code; PlayOJO’s published process doesn’t ask for them.
Uploading documents in your PlayOJO account
Email isn’t an option for documents, so the account upload is the route to use, whether on the website or in the PlayOJO app. If PlayOJO has emailed you about verification, follow the instructions in that email.
Log in and open My Account.
Select the Upload Documents tab.
Choose the document type and add your colour photo or file.
Repeat for each document requested (ID, address, card).
Wait for confirmation; contact the OJO Crew if nothing has happened after 48 hours.
How long PlayOJO verification takes
PlayOJO says documents are usually checked in under 12 hours, that extra verification can take longer, and that you should contact the OJO Crew if you haven’t heard back within 48 hours. Those are typical figures, not promises.

When PlayOJO may ask for documents again
Verification at PlayOJO isn’t always one and done. Its help pages name the situations that can lead to a new request:
You start using a new payment method, such as a different debit card.
You change personal details, such as your name or address.
You make your first withdrawal request.
Your account goes through an affordability check.
The Gambling Commission says operators shouldn’t demand ID as a condition of withdrawal if they could have asked earlier, unless a legal duty applies at that point, and that anti-money laundering checks should be done promptly. If a request at withdrawal stage feels unreasonable, ask PlayOJO which rule it relies on. Uploading early, as PlayOJO itself recommends, is the simplest way to avoid a payout waiting on paperwork; our PlayOJO withdrawal time page covers what happens after that.
Age checks before PlayOJO games and demos
You must be 18 or over to hold a PlayOJO account, and UK rules require your age to be confirmed before you can play anything, including free-play versions of slots. So a PlayOJO demo is not a way to try games anonymously: it sits behind the same check as real-money play. The reasoning is that demos use the same reels, features and sounds as paid games, and regulators decided under-18s shouldn’t have access to them. Our free slots page explains how demo mode works once you’re verified, and what a slot demo is covers what it can and can’t tell you.
One more eligibility point: PlayOJO’s welcome offer is for new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland. If you live there, read playing slots in Northern Ireland first.
Is it safe to upload documents to PlayOJO?
Uploading through your logged-in account keeps the files inside PlayOJO’s system rather than in an email inbox, which is one reason email uploads aren’t accepted. PlayOJO publishes an information security statement in its site footer if you want the detail. Masking your card digits as described above limits what any image reveals. Treat any message asking you to send documents to a different address or website as suspicious, and go to PlayOJO directly instead. Our is PlayOJO legit page explains how to confirm the licence on the Commission’s register.
PlayOJO’s no-wagering spins once you’re verified
New UK customers aged 18+ (excluding Northern Ireland) who make a first deposit of at least £10 get 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, worth 10p each, so £8 of spins in total. There is no wagering, so any winnings are paid in cash. Terms apply; our PlayOJO free spins page goes through the offer step by step.
PlayOJO’s 80 no-wagering spins pay winnings as cash, so a verified account means nothing stands between those winnings and a withdrawal request. Coral and Ladbrokes also pay spin winnings with no wagering. 18+, terms apply.
Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions
Does PlayOJO need ID to verify my account?
Yes, PlayOJO may ask for photo ID such as a passport, driving licence or government-issued ID card, along with a proof of address and, if you deposit by card, a masked photo of that card. UK rules also require every licensed site to confirm your age and identity before you gamble, which often happens electronically at sign-up. PlayOJO says it asks for documents occasionally to confirm your details match, and recommends uploading early. Our age checks on slot sites guide explains the rules, and can you play slots without ID answers the common follow-up questions.
How long does PlayOJO verification take?
PlayOJO says documents are usually checked in under 12 hours, although extra verification can take longer. If you haven’t heard anything after 48 hours, its help page asks you to contact the OJO Crew. The quickest way through is a first upload that meets every rule: in colour, in date, uncropped, and with a proof of address issued within the last 3 months. Rejected images restart the wait. Our PlayOJO customer service page explains how to chase a check, and fast withdrawal tips shows why early verification helps payouts.
Can I email my documents to PlayOJO?
No. PlayOJO’s help page states that documents are not accepted by email. Upload them through the Upload Documents tab in My Account on the website or app instead, or follow the instructions in any verification email PlayOJO has sent you. Uploading inside your account keeps the files in PlayOJO’s system and links them to the right account straight away. If you can’t log in to reach the upload tab, contact the OJO Crew first; our PlayOJO login problems page covers the usual fixes for account access.
Why does PlayOJO want a photo of my bank card?
PlayOJO asks for the front of any bank card you deposit with to confirm that the card is yours. The image must be in colour, uncropped, and show only the first 4 and last 4 digits, with the middle 8 covered. You only need to do this once per card, and its help page says unverified accounts can hold up to two non-verified cards. Never send the back of the card or the security code. Our guide to debit card slot sites explains how card payments work at UK slot sites more generally.
Will PlayOJO accept a black and white copy of my ID?
No. PlayOJO’s published rules say ID, proof of address and card images must all be in colour. Colour matters because it shows security features and confirms the image is of the original document rather than a photocopy. The ID must also be valid, show a clear photo and signature, and have no cut-off edges. A phone photo in good daylight usually meets every requirement. If a document has been rejected, check each rule in turn before re-uploading. Our slot site verification documents guide has more tips on getting images accepted first time.
Can I verify PlayOJO with a bank statement instead of a bill?
Yes. PlayOJO accepts a gas, water or electricity bill or, alternatively, a bank statement as proof of address. Whichever you use must be in colour, in your name, show your address and the company or bank logo, and have been issued within the last 3 months. An online statement works if the download or screenshot shows all of those details. If neither option is available in your name, ask the OJO Crew what else they’ll consider before uploading. The KYC glossary entry explains why address checks are part of verification.
Why did PlayOJO ask for documents after I requested a withdrawal?
Documents may be requested after your first withdrawal request or during affordability checks, according to PlayOJO’s help page, and also when you add a new payment method or change your details. The Gambling Commission’s guidance is that operators shouldn’t make ID a condition of withdrawal if they could have asked earlier, unless a legal duty applies at that point. Uploading ID, address and card images early, as PlayOJO recommends, is the easiest way to avoid a payout waiting on paperwork. Our PlayOJO withdrawal time and affordability checks pages explain more.
Can I play PlayOJO demo slots without verifying my age?
No. Under UK rules in force since May 2019, licensed sites must confirm your age before you can play free-to-play versions of their games, so PlayOJO demos sit behind the same check as real-money slots. Once verified, demos let you see how a slot’s features and paytable work before choosing a stake, but demo results don’t predict anything about paid spins. You must be 18 or over to hold an account. Our pages on what a slot demo is and how old you need to be to play slots cover the details.
