How to set deposit limits on slot sites

To set deposit limits on slot sites, open your account menu, find the safer gambling or 'Responsible gambling' section, choose Deposit limits, pick a period such as daily, weekly or monthly, and enter the most you want to deposit in it. A lower limit applies straight away. A higher one has to wait at least 24 hours and needs your confirmation, which is the whole point.

Key takeaways

  • Every UKGC-licensed slot site must offer deposit limits, and since 31 October 2025 it must prompt you to set one at registration or first deposit.
  • Limits must be available over at least 24 hours, 7 days and one month; if you set several, the lowest one that applies wins.
  • Reducing a limit takes effect immediately; increasing it needs a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours and a second confirmation.
  • A limit set on a site's website also applies in its app, because both use one account.

How to set deposit limits on slot sites: the steps

Wording varies a little, but every UK-licensed site puts the setting in roughly the same place. These steps work on a phone browser, a desktop or a casino app.

  1. Log in and open your account or profile menu (often a person icon in the top corner).
  2. Look for a section called Safer gambling, Responsible gambling, Gambling controls or Account limits.
  3. Choose Deposit limits.
  4. Pick a period: daily (24 hours), weekly (7 days) or monthly. You can usually set more than one.
  5. Enter the maximum amount for each period and save.
  6. Read the confirmation message: it should tell you when the limit takes effect.
  7. Try a deposit just above the limit if you want proof it is working; the cashier should refuse it.

What UK rules say about deposit limits

Deposit limits are not a favour from the casino. The Gambling Commission's remote technical standards require licensed operators to offer financial limits, and updated wording that applies from 31 October 2025 tightened how they work.

RequirementWhat it means for you
Prompt at sign-upYou must be asked to set a limit during registration or at your first deposit
Set any timeLimits can be added from registration onwards, not just at sign-up
Prompt implementationA requested limit must be applied as soon as practicable, and you must be told when
PeriodsGuidance says at least 24 hours, 7 days and one month should be offered
Several limitsThe lowest applicable amount applies
ReductionsTake effect immediately, barring a technical failure
IncreasesOnly at your request, after at least 24 hours, and only once you confirm again

These rules sit alongside the slot-specific protections covered in our guide to UK slot rules, such as the £5 and £2 stake limits and the 2.5-second minimum spin.

Deposit, loss and spend limits compared

The Commission's guidance describes three kinds of financial limit. Sites do not all offer every type, so it helps to know what each one actually counts.

LimitWhat it countsEffect of a winBest for
Deposit limitMoney paid into the accountNone: winnings do not reset itCapping new money from your bank
Loss limitStakes minus winningsA win gives you more roomCapping how far down you can go
Spend limitTotal amount staked or spentNoneCapping overall activity

For most slot players the deposit limit is the strongest single control, because it governs the only thing that comes from your own pocket. A loss limit is a useful second layer, since a deposit limit on its own does not stop you replaying winnings.

Daily, weekly and monthly limits working together

Setting more than one period lets you allow the occasional bigger evening while capping the month. Whichever limit is lowest at the moment of a deposit is the one that applies. Here is a worked example with a daily limit of £20, a weekly limit of £50 and a monthly limit of £150.

DayWanted to depositDaily roomWeekly roomAllowed
Monday£20£20£50£20
Tuesday£20£20£30£20
Wednesday£20£20£10£10
Thursday£20£20£0£0 until the week rolls over

Check how the site defines its periods. Some use rolling windows (the last 24 hours or 7 days) and others reset at a fixed time, such as midnight or Monday. The help pages or the limit screen should say which. Our guide to setting a slot session budget shows how to pick the daily figure.

Raising or removing a deposit limit: the cooling-off wait

Lowering a limit is instant. Raising one, or removing it, is deliberately slow. Under the rules, an increase can only happen at your request, no sooner than 24 hours later, and only after you confirm it again at the end of that wait. If you never confirm, the old limit stays.

  1. You request an increase from £20 to £50 a day at 10pm on Friday.
  2. The site records the request; your limit remains £20.
  3. From 10pm on Saturday at the earliest, the site asks you to confirm.
  4. If you confirm, the £50 limit starts; if you ignore it or decline, £20 stays in place.

That wait is the most useful feature of the whole system. Most decisions to raise a limit are made in the middle of a session. Twenty-four hours later, many people find they no longer want to.

Do deposit limits apply in the app as well?

Yes. A casino's website and its app are two windows on one account, with the same balance, verification and safer gambling settings. A limit set on a laptop applies when you open the app on your phone, and the reverse. Our guide to playing slots on mobile covers other differences between app and browser play.

Limits do not travel between different companies, though. A limit at one site has no effect on an account at another, so if you hold several accounts you need to set a limit on each, or consider closing the ones you do not use.

Where the deposit limit setting lives at five UK slot sites

We have written a separate page for each of the sites we cover, explaining its safer gambling tools in detail. Each follows the same UK rules on prompts, periods and cooling-off.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited but are separate brands with separate accounts. Set a limit on each account you hold.

A second line of defence: limits at your bank

A casino limit only covers that casino. Many UK bank and building society accounts now let you block gambling transactions on your debit card altogether, usually from the card settings in the banking app. Some banks also allow spending caps by category. Because credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain, a debit card block covers the main payment route, though e-wallets funded from another source may need their own settings.

For a fuller list of blocking options, including software that stops gambling sites loading, see our guide on how to block gambling sites.

Deposit limit problems and how to sort them

Advantages

  • Limit not showing: check you are in the account menu, not the cashier; some sites list it under Gambling controls
  • Deposit refused: the cashier message should name the limit reached and when it resets
  • Lower limit wanted mid-period: reduce it now; it applies immediately

Drawbacks

  • Support cannot skip the 24-hour wait on an increase
  • A limit at one brand does not apply to a sister brand's account
  • Bonus offers do not change or override a limit

If a deposit goes through that should have been blocked, take a screenshot and contact support. If the answer does not satisfy you, our guide on how to complain to a slot site sets out the next steps.

Frequently asked questions

Do all UK slot sites have to offer deposit limits?

Yes. Every site licensed by the UK Gambling Commission must offer financial limits, and from 31 October 2025 it must prompt you to set one during registration or at your first deposit. Guidance says limits should be available over at least 24 hours, 7 days and one month. A site that does not offer limits, or that lets you raise one instantly, is a warning sign that it may not be UK-licensed at all. Our guide on how to check a slot site's licence shows how to confirm.

How long does it take to increase a deposit limit?

At least 24 hours, plus a confirmation from you at the end. UK rules say a limit you set can only be increased at your request, after a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours, and only once you positively confirm the change when that period ends. If you do not confirm, the existing limit stays. Customer support cannot speed this up. The delay exists because requests to raise limits are often made mid-session, when it is hardest to judge. Our deposit limit glossary entry explains the term in brief.

Does lowering a deposit limit work straight away?

Yes. UK rules require a reduction you ask for to take effect immediately, unless a technical failure prevents it, in which case the site should tell you when it will apply. That means you can tighten a limit at any moment, including during a session, and the next deposit will be measured against the new figure. If you have already deposited more than the new limit in the current period, further deposits will be blocked until the period resets. Our guide to setting a session budget helps choose the number.

What is the difference between a deposit limit and a loss limit?

A deposit limit caps the money you pay in, while a loss limit caps how much you can lose, counting winnings back against your stakes. With a £50 weekly deposit limit, winnings do not give you any extra room to deposit. With a £50 weekly loss limit, a £30 win would let you stake more before the limit is reached. Not every site offers loss limits, so the deposit limit is the one to set first. Our loss limit entry explains how they are calculated.

Can I set a deposit limit in a casino app?

Yes. Casino apps use the same account as the website, so the limits menu is usually in the app's account or settings area, and any limit you set applies on every device. A limit set in the app also governs deposits made later through the website, and the reverse. The same rules on immediate reductions and 24-hour waits for increases apply. If you cannot find the setting in the app, the website's account menu will have it. Updating the app first can help if the menu looks out of date.

Do deposit limits apply across different casinos?

No. A deposit limit is attached to one account at one operator, so setting a limit at one slot site has no effect on any other. Even sister brands run by the same company, such as Coral and Ladbrokes, have separate accounts and separate limits. If you hold several accounts, you need to set limits on each, close accounts you no longer use, or use a tool that works across every site. GAMSTOP self-exclusion and bank gambling blocks both do. See our guide on how to self-exclude from slot sites for the cross-site option.

What deposit limit should I choose?

Choose the most you could lose in the period without it affecting bills, savings or plans, and then consider going lower. A useful method is to work out a monthly amount for gambling from spare money, divide it by the sessions you expect to play, and set the daily limit to one session's budget and the monthly limit to the total. Stacking periods this way allows an occasional longer session while capping the month. If you find yourself wanting to raise it often, take that as a signal. Our page on the signs slots are becoming a problem may help.

Can I remove a deposit limit completely?

You can ask to, but removing a limit counts as raising it, so the same rules apply: a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours, followed by your confirmation before the change takes effect. Until then the original limit stays in place. Some players keep a high monthly limit rather than none at all, so the wait still applies if they ever want to go beyond it. If you are thinking about removing limits because you keep reaching them, a time-out may serve you better. Our guide on taking a break from slots explains how.

Will setting a deposit limit affect my bonus?

A limit does not cancel a bonus, but it can stop you making the deposit a bonus needs. If a welcome offer needs a £20 first deposit and your daily limit is £10, the cashier will refuse the qualifying deposit. Your limit always takes priority, and that is the right way round: a bonus is never a reason to raise a limit you set for a good reason. Limits do not affect wagering progress or withdrawals.
