How to withdraw slot winnings

To withdraw slot winnings, open the casino's cashier, choose Withdraw, pick the payment method you deposited with and enter an amount up to your withdrawable cash balance. The request then passes through the casino's approval check before your bank or wallet receives it. Most delays come from verification, bonus terms or using the wrong method, and all three can be sorted before you ever press the button.

Key takeaways

  • Only the cash part of your balance can be withdrawn; bonus funds still under wagering usually cannot.
  • Payouts normally go back to the method you deposited with (the closed-loop rule).
  • A withdrawal has two waits: the casino's approval, then the payment method's own transfer time.
  • Since 31 October 2021, UK casinos cannot let you reverse a withdrawal to keep playing.
  • Slot winnings are not taxed for UK players, so the amount approved is the amount you keep, less any published fee.

Which slot winnings you can actually withdraw

A casino balance is often two balances shown as one. Cash is your deposits plus any winnings that are free of conditions. Bonus funds come from a promotion and are locked until the wagering requirement is met. Only cash can be withdrawn. If a bonus is active, the terms say which money is used first and what happens to the bonus if you withdraw early, which is often that it is forfeited.

No-wagering free spins work differently. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO publish welcome spins whose winnings carry no wagering, so whatever the spins return goes straight to cash. Our page on whether you can withdraw free spins winnings explains the variations you will see on other sites.

Before you withdraw: three checks that prevent most delays

Most held payouts trace back to something that could have been fixed earlier. Running through these three checks takes a few minutes.

  1. Verification. UK casinos must verify your identity, and a first withdrawal or a large one can trigger a request for documents. Uploading ID and proof of address early, as covered in our verification documents guide, removes the most common hold.
  2. Bonus status. Look at the bonus area. If wagering is unfinished, decide whether to complete it or let it go before you request a payout.
  3. Payment method. Make sure the method you plan to use is the one you deposited with and that it supports withdrawals. Some deposit-only methods mean the payout goes to a bank account instead.

How to withdraw slot winnings, step by step

Menus differ between sites, but the sequence is close to identical at UKGC-licensed casinos, on the website and in the app alike, because both use the same account.

  1. Log in and open the cashier or 'Banking' area from your account menu.
  2. Choose Withdraw. The page shows your withdrawable balance separately from any bonus funds.
  3. Select the payment method. Where the closed-loop rule applies, the site will steer you to the method you deposited with.
  4. Enter the amount, keeping any published minimum or fee threshold in mind.
  5. Confirm, and complete any security step such as a password or one-time code.
  6. Note the time of the request and watch for an email or app message saying it has been approved.
  7. Once approved, allow for the payment method's own transfer time before chasing.

The closed-loop rule: why your payout goes back to your deposit method

UK casinos generally return money to the method it came from. This anti-money-laundering practice, called closed loop, is why you cannot deposit by debit card and withdraw to a friend's e-wallet. Coral and Ladbrokes describe a closed-loop policy in their help centres. Their pages add specific conditions: a PayPal withdrawal needs a PayPal deposit within the last six months, Google Pay withdrawals are paid to the underlying card, and paysafecard withdrawals need an earlier paysafecard deposit.

If you deposited with more than one method, the cashier may split a payout or ask you to clear one method first. Note too that both sites publish a UK limit of three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days. Our overview of slot site payment methods compares the main options.

How long slot withdrawals take: approval plus transfer

Think of every withdrawal as two stages. First the casino reviews the request: checking identity, bonus status and account activity. Then the payment method moves the money. The published figures below come from each operator's own help pages; they are typical times, not promises, and a first withdrawal or a large one can take longer.

SiteApproval stageFastest published methodSlowest published methodFees
CoralReview team; Visa Fast Funds approval typically a couple of hoursVisa Fast Funds: typically up to 4 hours after approvalFast Bank Transfer: 2–4 business daysNone
LadbrokesReview team; Visa Fast Funds approval typically a couple of hoursVisa Fast Funds: typically up to 4 hours after approvalFast Bank Transfer: 2–4 business daysNone
CasumoApproved or denied within 3 days (policy); usually hoursPayPal, Apple Pay, Skrill, Neteller, MuchBetter: instant after approvalBank: up to 5 days£3 under £10

10bet's help centre publishes up to 2 business days for debit cards and e-wallets and up to 3 for bank transfers, without a separate approval time. PlayOJO's payout times are not something we have verified, so check its cashier. For a broader comparison, see our list of fast withdrawal slot sites.

Worked example: from a feature win to your bank

Suppose you deposit £20 by debit card at a site with a no-wagering spins offer, play your spins and some cash spins, and end the evening with £86.40 in cash. There is no active bonus. You request £86.40 to the same card at 9pm.

  • At a site publishing Visa Fast Funds with approval typically within a couple of hours and transfer typically within 4 hours, the money could plausibly reach your account the same night or the next morning, provided no documents are requested.
  • If the site asks for verification, the clock effectively restarts once you upload the documents.
  • At a site paying by bank transfer over several business days, a Friday evening request may not land until the middle of the following week.

Nothing about the amount is taxed. The £86.40 approved is the £86.40 you receive, unless a published fee applies. The example is about timing only: it does not suggest a session is likely to end ahead, and over time most sessions on slots end below the starting balance.

Pending withdrawals and the reverse-withdrawal ban

Before October 2021, many casinos let players cancel a pending withdrawal and send the money back into their balance. The Gambling Commission banned that practice for online slots and casino from 31 October 2021, because it encouraged people to gamble winnings they had already decided to keep. Once you press withdraw, the money is on its way.

A request sitting in 'pending' for longer than the published approval time usually means a check is under way. Look for an email asking for documents, then contact support with the request time and amount. If you are not satisfied with the answer, our guide on how to complain to a slot site explains the formal route.

Why a slot withdrawal might be held or reduced

Advantages

  • Verification documents uploaded and approved
  • No active bonus, or wagering complete
  • Withdrawing to the same method used to deposit
  • Stakes kept within the max bet rule during any bonus

Drawbacks

  • First withdrawal or a large amount triggering extra checks
  • Bonus terms breached, for example a stake above the max bet
  • Winnings above a bonus win cap being removed
  • Name on the payment method not matching the account

A win can also be voided if a game malfunctioned, which is rare but explained in our page on what 'malfunction voids all pays' means. If part of a payout disappears, ask the casino which term was applied and request it in writing.

After the money lands: keep your winnings separate

Once a withdrawal arrives, many players find it helps to move it out of the account they use for gambling. It keeps the money from drifting back into a deposit and makes your real position over a month easy to see. Pairing that with a deposit limit means a win does not quietly raise how much you play next time.

Partner sites with published payout terms

Coral, Ladbrokes and Casumo publish their withdrawal timings and fees in their own help centres, which is why they feature in the table above. Each is UKGC-licensed; welcome offers are for new customers aged 18+ and terms apply. See our Coral withdrawal time page for the full method-by-method detail.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to withdraw slot winnings in the UK?

Anything from a few hours to around five working days is typical, depending on the casino's approval time and your payment method. Coral and Ladbrokes publish that Visa Fast Funds approval typically takes a couple of hours, with the transfer then typically within four hours, while Fast Bank Transfer takes two to four business days. Casumo says e-wallet and Apple Pay payouts arrive instantly after approval, cards up to two days and bank transfers up to five. First withdrawals often take longer because of verification. See our fast withdrawal tips for ways to shorten the wait.

Why can I not withdraw my whole balance?

Part of your balance is probably bonus funds that are still under wagering, and only cash can be withdrawn. The cashier normally shows the withdrawable amount separately. If you have an active deposit bonus, the terms explain whether withdrawing early forfeits it. Some sites also have a minimum withdrawal, or a fee below a threshold, such as Casumo's £3 charge on amounts under £10. Check the bonus area first, then the payment terms. Our guide on how to track wagering shows how to see what remains.

Do I have to withdraw to the same card I deposited with?

In most cases yes, because UK casinos use a closed-loop policy that returns money to the method it came from. Help centre pages at Coral and Ladbrokes say so, adding that PayPal withdrawals need a PayPal deposit within six months and Google Pay withdrawals go to the underlying card. If your deposit method cannot receive payouts, the site will usually offer a bank transfer instead, which may need extra checks. Our page on debit card slot sites explains card withdrawals in more detail.

Can I cancel a withdrawal and keep playing?

No. Reverse withdrawals have been banned for UK online slots and casino since 31 October 2021, so a licensed casino cannot let you cancel a request and put the money back into play. The rule exists because reversing payouts encouraged people to gamble away money they had already decided to keep. If you change your mind after the money arrives, you would need to make a new deposit, and it is worth asking yourself whether you actually want to. Our guide to the UK slot rules lists the other changes from 2021.

Are slot winnings taxed in the UK?

No. UK players do not pay income tax or capital gains tax on gambling winnings, including online slots, and the casino does not deduct anything. The amount approved is the amount you receive, less any published withdrawal fee. Tax is paid by the operators instead, through gaming duties. If you move winnings into savings, any interest they earn is treated in the usual way, separate from the win itself. Our page on whether slot winnings are taxed gives more detail.

Why is my slot withdrawal still pending?

A pending status means the casino has not finished its approval check yet. The usual reasons are a verification request, a first or unusually large withdrawal, a bonus that has not been settled, or a request made outside office hours. Check your email and account messages for document requests, then contact support with the time and amount if the published approval window has passed. Both Entain sites note that their transfer times are in addition to internal processing. Our Ladbrokes withdrawal time page shows how the stages add up.

Do UK slot sites charge to withdraw?

Many do not, but check each site's payment terms. Both Entain brands, Coral and Ladbrokes, state that they do not charge withdrawal fees. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals under £10 and nothing at £10 or more. 10bet does not publish a fee policy in the help article we read, so check its cashier before requesting. Your bank or e-wallet may have its own charges, for example for currency conversion. Grouping small amounts into one request is the simplest way to avoid a threshold fee. Our Casumo withdrawal time page covers its policy.

What documents do I need to withdraw?

Usually photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, and proof of address, such as a recent bank statement or utility bill. Casinos may also ask for proof that you own the payment method, for example a photo of your card with the middle digits covered. Larger withdrawals can trigger questions about where your deposits came from. Uploading documents before your first withdrawal saves time, as most holds happen at that point. Our guide to slot site verification documents lists what is commonly accepted.

Can I withdraw slot winnings to PayPal?

Often yes, if you deposited with PayPal and the site supports PayPal payouts. At Coral and Ladbrokes you need a PayPal deposit within the last six months before they will pay out to PayPal. Casumo lists PayPal among its withdrawal methods and says e-wallet payouts arrive instantly once approved. Bear in mind that PayPal deposits do not qualify for the Coral or Ladbrokes welcome spins. For a fuller comparison of which sites take PayPal and how payouts work, see our PayPal slots guide.
