Free spins terms explained

Free spins terms explained plainly: the small print behind a spins offer tells you who can claim it, what you must pay or stake first, how much each spin is worth, which games it works on, how long you have and whether winnings are paid as cash. Read those six things and you know what an offer is really worth before you deposit a penny.

Key takeaways

  • Turn every headline into pounds: number of spins × value per spin = the real face value.
  • Check the excluded payment methods before depositing; using one can lose you the offer.
  • There are usually two clocks: a window to claim the spins and a shorter or separate one to use them.
  • Wagering on spin winnings is capped at 10x in Great Britain from 19 January 2026; no wagering is better still.
  • Offers are for over-18s only and terms apply to every one of them.

Free spins terms explained using a sample terms block

Offer terms look intimidating because they pack a lot into a few lines. Below is a sample block we have written to show the usual structure. It isn’t copied from any casino, but almost every UK spins offer contains these clauses in some form.

  1. 18+. New customers only. One offer per person, household and device.
  2. Deposit and stake £10 on eligible slots within 7 days of registering.
  3. Deposits by e-wallet and prepaid card do not qualify.
  4. Receive 50 spins worth 10p each on a selected game.
  5. Spins must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days.
  6. Winnings from spins are paid as cash with no wagering requirement.
  7. Full terms apply.

Each line answers a separate question: who, what condition, how you pay, what you get, how long, and what happens to winnings. The rest of this guide takes those questions one at a time.

Who can claim: age, new customer and location clauses

Every UK offer is for people aged 18 or over, and you will need to pass age and identity checks before you can play at all. “New customers only” normally means you have never held an account with that brand, and often with sister brands that share the same company and account system.

Location clauses matter more than people expect. PlayOJO’s welcome spins, for example, are for new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland. If you sign up somewhere a clause excludes, the account may work but the offer won’t be credited.

The “one per household” wording is about preventing duplicate claims. Two adults at the same address may find only one of them can take the offer, so read it before a partner signs up too.

The qualifying condition: deposit only, or deposit and stake

This is the clause that decides what you must do first, and it comes in two forms.

  • Deposit only: put in a minimum amount and the spins arrive. PlayOJO’s offer works this way, with a minimum first deposit of £10.
  • Deposit and stake: put money in and then bet a set amount on slots. Coral asks you to bet £10 on slots; Ladbrokes asks you to spend £10 on slots. Your own £10 is played first, so its result is yours, win or lose.

The excluded payment methods sit inside this clause and catch many people out. Using one can mean the deposit works but the spins never appear.

OfferMethods that don’t qualify
Coral: 100 spins after a £10 slots betNeteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards
Ladbrokes: up to 500 spins after a £10 slots spendPrepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers
PlayOJO: 80 spins on a £10 first depositCheck the cashier and full terms

If you normally use PayPal, look at our page on PayPal slot sites for how it works generally, then use a qualifying debit card for the welcome deposit.

Spin value: turning the headline number into pounds

The number of spins grabs attention, but the spin value decides what the offer is worth. Multiply the two and you get the face value: the amount you would have staked if you had paid for those spins yourself.

OfferSpinsValue eachFace value
Coral10010p£10
LadbrokesUp to 500 (50 a day for 10 days)10pUp to £50
PlayOJO8010p£8

Face value isn’t the same as expected winnings. On a slot with a 96% RTP, £10 of spins returns about £9.60 on average over a very large number of spins, and much less or much more in any single batch. Our guide to working out free spins value goes through that calculation in more detail.

Eligible games and the selected-slot clause

Spins are almost always locked to one game or a short list. PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza; Coral and Ladbrokes use selected games named in their terms. Opening a different slot simply means the spins don’t show, and that is one of the most common reasons people think their spins have vanished.

The selected game also sets your likely outcome. Big Bass Bonanza, for instance, is listed at 96.71% RTP with high volatility, which means many small or blank spins and occasional larger results from the fishing feature. Knowing the game helps you set expectations. If spins are missing, our answer to why can’t I use my free spins lists the usual causes.

Claim windows and expiry: the two clocks in every offer

Spins offers often run two separate timers, and missing either one forfeits the spins.

OfferClaim windowUse the spins within
CoralAccept within 48 hours7 days
LadbrokesClaim each day’s 50 spins from the inbox before 23:597 days
PlayOJOCredited after the qualifying first depositCheck the terms

Ladbrokes’ structure is worth understanding: it is ten separate daily batches, not one block of 500. A day you don’t claim is lost, so the maximum only applies if you log in and claim on all ten days. That is a reason to treat the headline as “up to”, not as a promise. Our bonus expiry entry covers timers more generally.

Wagering on spin winnings: what the multiplier means

A wagering requirement tells you how many times you must bet your spin winnings before you can withdraw them. Since 19 January 2026 no promotion in Great Britain can ask for more than 10x.

Worked example: 50 spins at 10p win £6. With no wagering, that £6 is cash. With 10x wagering, you must place £60 of bets first. At a 96% RTP the expected cost of £60 in bets is about £2.40, leaving roughly £3.60 on average, and you could lose the lot along the way. The offers on this page carry no wagering on spin winnings, which removes that step entirely; the question do free spins have wagering explains how to tell from the terms.

Win caps, max bet rules and other limits

Three further clauses can quietly change an offer’s value.

  • Maximum win from spins. Some offers cap what spin winnings can turn into, for example £50 or £100. Anything above the cap is removed. Check for a win cap line.
  • Max bet while wagering. If winnings or bonus funds need wagering, there is normally a maximum stake per spin until you finish. Casumo, for instance, limits bets to £5 with an active bonus.
  • Withdrawal order. Where cash and bonus balances sit side by side, terms say which is used first and whether withdrawing early cancels the bonus.

UK rules that sit above any offer’s terms

Whatever the terms say, these rules apply to every licensed UK site, and our guide to the 2026 slot rule changes covers them in full:

  • Wagering on any bonus is capped at 10x from 19 January 2026.
  • Offers mixing products, such as a sports bet that unlocks casino spins, have been banned since the same date.
  • Slot stakes are limited to £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24.
  • Credit cards can’t be used to gamble, including through e-wallets funded by a credit card.
  • Once you request a withdrawal, the site can’t let you reverse it to keep playing.

How to check free spins terms in five minutes

  1. Find the full terms link under the offer, not just the summary banner.
  2. Note the qualifying condition: deposit only, or deposit and stake, and the minimum amount.
  3. Check the excluded payment methods against the one you plan to use.
  4. Work out face value: spins × value per spin.
  5. Write down both deadlines: claiming and using.
  6. Look for wagering, a win cap and a max bet rule. If all three are absent, winnings are simply cash.
  7. Confirm the eligible game and read its info screen for RTP and volatility.

Where the terms are simplest: no-wagering spins offers

The three offers below are the most straightforward among our partners because spin winnings carry no wagering. Coral gives 100 spins at 10p on selected games after you deposit and bet £10 on slots, to accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days. Ladbrokes gives 50 spins a day at 10p for ten days, up to 500, after a £10 slots spend, claimed before 23:59 each day. PlayOJO gives 80 spins at 10p on Big Bass Bonanza with a first deposit of £10 or more. 18+, terms apply; see our 100 free spins page for a closer look at Coral’s offer.

All three offers below pay free spin winnings with no wagering, which makes their terms some of the simplest to read: Coral and Ladbrokes need a £10 slots stake and PlayOJO a £10 first deposit. 18+, terms apply.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions

What does “spin value” mean in free spins terms?

Spin value is the stake each free spin is played at, and it is the most important number in the offer. Multiply it by the number of spins to get the face value: 100 spins at 10p is £10 of spins, while 20 spins at 50p is also £10. A large number of low-value spins isn’t automatically better than fewer high-value ones. All of our partner spins offers use 10p spins. Our guide to free spins value shows the full calculation, including the effect of RTP.

Why didn’t my free spins appear after I deposited?

The most common reason is that the deposit method was excluded from the offer. Coral, for example, excludes PayPal, Neteller, Skrill, Paysafe, prepaid cards and certain debit cards, and Ladbrokes excludes a similar list. Other causes are not meeting the stake condition, missing an opt-in, opening the wrong game or letting a claim window pass. Contact live chat with the time of your deposit. Our page on why you can’t use your free spins lists every usual cause and fix.

Do I keep what I win from free spins?

With no-wagering spins, yes: winnings are paid as withdrawable cash, subject to any win cap in the terms. With wagered spins, winnings arrive as bonus funds and you must bet them a set number of times, at most 10x in Great Britain since January 2026, before they can be withdrawn. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO all pay their welcome spin winnings without wagering. Our answer to can you withdraw free spins winnings covers the details, including verification before a withdrawal.

What is the difference between a claim window and expiry?

A claim window is the time you have to accept or activate the spins; expiry is the time you then have to use them. Coral’s spins must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days. Ladbrokes’ daily batches must be claimed before 23:59 on the day they are offered and then used within 7 days. Missing either deadline usually means the spins are removed with no way to restore them. Our bonus expiry entry explains how timers are worded.

What is a win cap on free spins?

A win cap is the maximum amount your free spin winnings can be worth once converted to cash, and anything above it is removed. A cap of £100 means a lucky £250 result from spins pays £100. Caps are more common on smaller or no-deposit offers. Not every offer has one, and the welcome spins at our partner sites are described without a win cap in their key terms, but always read the full terms. See our win cap definition for examples.

Can free spins have wagering requirements in the UK?

Yes, they can, but the requirement is capped. Since 19 January 2026 no UK-licensed site can set wagering above 10x on any bonus, including winnings from free spins. In practice that means £5 of spin winnings needs at most £50 of bets before withdrawal. Many offers now carry no wagering at all, including the welcome spins at Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO. The question do free spins have wagering explains how to spot it in the terms.

Why does the qualifying bet have to be on slots?

Because mixed-product promotions are now banned. Since 19 January 2026, a UK site can’t make you bet on sport, bingo or another product to unlock casino spins, or the other way round. A slots spins offer therefore asks for a stake on slots. Coral’s offer asks you to bet £10 on slots and Ladbrokes asks you to spend £10 on slots. That £10 is real play with your own money, so its result is yours. Our guide to the 2026 rule changes has more.

Are “up to” free spins offers misleading?

Not if the terms explain how the maximum is reached, but you should read “up to” as the ceiling rather than the expected amount. Ladbrokes’ up to 500 spins, for example, comes as 50 spins a day for ten days, each batch claimed before 23:59. Miss two days and you receive 400. The value per spin stays 10p either way, so the full amount is £50 of spins. Our 500 free spins page explains that offer’s daily rhythm in more detail.
