A maximum win, such as Sweet Bonanza's 21,100x, is the cap on an ordinary win, not a jackpot.
Slots are capped at £5 a spin in Britain.
Short answer: A progressive jackpot slot diverts a share of every stake into a prize pool that grows until a random trigger pays it. The base game returns less than a standard slot as a result.
Three kinds
Network jackpots pool stakes across many casinos and reach millions. Local jackpots are smaller and won more often. Daily or must-drop jackpots pay before a deadline.
The share of each stake that feeds a jackpot is typically a few percent, and it comes out of the game's overall return. So a jackpot slot advertising 94% might return only 90% or so in ordinary play. That is a fair price for a ticket to a very large prize, as long as you know you are paying it.
