Coral Megaways slots

Coral Megaways slots have their own category in the Coral games lobby, mixing Big Time Gaming's originals with licensed versions from Blueprint, Pragmatic Play, Red Tiger and others, plus a Coral exclusive, Big Banker Megaways. This page shows how the ways are counted spin by spin, what the volatility means for your balance and how to check a title's RTP.

Key takeaways

  • Coral lists Megaways as a separate lobby category, from Fishin' Frenzy Megaways to branded and jackpot editions.
  • Ways are found by multiplying the symbols on each reel, so the count changes on every spin, commonly up to 117,649.
  • Most Megaways games are high volatility: long quiet runs and occasional large features.
  • UK rules apply in full: £5 a spin max for 25+, £2 for 18–24, 2.5 seconds a spin, no bonus buy.

What's in Coral's Megaways category

Coral Megaways slots are grouped in a dedicated category on the Coral games page, and Coral says Megaways titles top the charts there. The category page describes a library running from Fruit Shop Megaways to Disco Mania Merge Megaways, with themes from animals and the Wild West to Irish luck and mythology. Titles named on that page include Fishin' Frenzy Megaways, Eye of Horus Megaways, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways, Piggy Riches Megaways, Buffalo Blitz Megaways, Shamrock Holmes Megaways and Spartacus Megaways.

Coral is one of the sites where Big Time Gaming, the studio that invented the mechanic, is among the reported suppliers, alongside Blueprint Gaming and Pragmatic Play, both of which make licensed Megaways games. Our Coral slots review covers the wider lobby.

How Megaways ways are counted, with a worked Coral spin

Megaways is a reel system licensed by Big Time Gaming. A standard game has six reels, and each reel shows a random number of symbols on every spin, usually between two and seven. Wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, in any position, so the number of ways equals the symbol counts multiplied together.

Symbols per reelSumWays that spin
2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 22×2×2×2×2×264
3, 5, 4, 6, 2, 73×5×4×6×2×75,040
7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 77×7×7×7×7×7117,649

That is why Coral's own page says most Megaways games provide tens of thousands of ways, commonly up to 117,649. Some go further: Spartacus Megaways uses taller reels, and Coral's page quotes a million ways at its maximum. Others add a horizontal reel above the middle four reels, which raises the count again. Ways don't change your stake, though. A 20p spin on a 64-ways layout costs exactly the same as a 20p spin on 117,649 ways; the higher count just spreads the same paytable across more combinations. Our guide to paylines vs ways explains the difference in more depth.

Megaways titles named on Coral's page, compared

The figures below come from our slot database, not from Coral. Casinos can run lower RTP versions, so always check the help screen of the game you load.

Gonzo's Quest MegawaysRed Tiger95.77%Medium–high117,64921,000x

Notice the spread: the two Blueprint games cap at 15,625 ways because their reels hold at most five symbols, while Red Tiger's remakes use the full seven-high layout. More ways don't automatically mean bigger wins; Gonzo's Quest Megaways and Piggy Riches share a ceiling of ways but have very different maximum wins.

Coral exclusives and jackpot Megaways

Two kinds of Megaways game at Coral don't fit the standard mould. The first is the exclusive: Coral's category page lists Big Banker Megaways as an exclusive slot from CR Games, and Coral has an Exclusive tab in its casino menu for titles of this kind. Exclusive games tend to be lightly documented outside the casino, so the help screen is your main source for RTP and rules.

The second is the jackpot hybrid. Deal or No Deal Megaways Jackpot King is the title Coral's page links directly to a progressive, and image captions on the same page show further Jackpot King editions (Eye of Horus, Fishin' Frenzy, Bison Rising) and Rapid Fire versions of The Goonies and Deal or No Deal Megaways. These combine high-volatility reels with a progressive jackpot, and the contribution to the pot usually trims the base-game RTP. Our page on Coral jackpot slots explains the networks.

Volatility: why Coral Megaways sessions swing

Nearly every Megaways game in the table above is rated high volatility or close to it. In practice that means many spins return nothing or a fraction of the stake, and most of the game's return is concentrated in free spins with cascades and growing multipliers. A session can end with nothing from the feature at all.

Worked example: £40 at 20p a spin

  • £40 buys 200 spins at 20p.
  • At the 2.5-second UK minimum, 200 spins take a little over eight minutes of pure spinning; in reality, with cascades and pauses, longer.
  • On a 96% game the theoretical cost of £40 staked once is £1.60, but with high volatility the actual result could range from losing the whole £40 to a feature paying many times that.
  • If you would be unhappy to lose £40 without seeing a bonus, a lower-volatility slot or a smaller stake fits better.

For a fuller method, see how to compare slot volatility.

Cascades, free spins and multipliers in Megaways games

Coral's category page notes that many Megaways games use cascades: winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in, so one paid spin can produce a chain of wins. In the free spins round of Bonanza-style games each cascade adds to a multiplier that doesn't reset, which is where the largest wins come from. Other titles add their own twist, such as Break da Bank Again Megaways' Hot Mode or Shamrock Holmes Megaways' win multipliers and respin, both described on Coral's page.

If you are new to cascading reels, how cascading reels work and how Megaways works explain the mechanics step by step.

How to check a Megaways game at Coral before you play

  1. Open Coral's casino menu and choose the Megaways category, or search the title.
  2. Load the game and open the help or information screen.
  3. Note the RTP shown; if the game exists in a Jackpot King or Rapid Fire version, compare both.
  4. Read the maximum win and how the free spins feature triggers.
  5. Check the reel layout: maximum symbols per reel and any top reel.
  6. Choose a stake that gives you at least 100 spins from your session budget.

UK stake and speed rules on Coral Megaways slots

Megaways games at Coral follow UK slot rules. The maximum is £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 a spin for those aged 18 to 24. Each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, autoplay and turbo are switched off, and the game can't celebrate a return smaller than your stake. The feature buy button found in some overseas versions of Megaways games is removed for players in Great Britain, so free spins have to be triggered in play. Read our UK slot game design rules for the full list.

Frequently asked questions

Does Coral have Megaways slots?

Yes. Coral has a dedicated Megaways category in its casino lobby and says Megaways titles top the charts there. Its category page names games such as Fishin' Frenzy Megaways, Eye of Horus Megaways, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways, Piggy Riches Megaways and Spartacus Megaways, plus the exclusive Big Banker Megaways. Lobbies change, so search the game name to confirm it is live before you plan a session. Our Megaways slots page explains the wider genre and the studios that make it.

How many ways to win do Coral Megaways slots have?

It changes on every spin, because each reel shows a random number of symbols. On a typical six-reel game with two to seven symbols per reel, the count runs from 64 to 117,649; Coral's category page says 117,649 is the common maximum. Some games use shorter reels and cap lower (Fishin' Frenzy Megaways at 15,625), while Spartacus Megaways reaches a million. The ways count doesn't change your stake. Our ways to win glossary entry covers the maths.

What is the best Megaways slot at Coral?

There is no single best, because the right game depends on your budget and taste for risk. Among titles named on Coral's page, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways has the highest published RTP in our database at 96.7%, but it is rated very high volatility. Gonzo's Quest Megaways has a 21,000x maximum win and medium–high volatility. Check the RTP Coral actually runs in each help screen. See best slots at Coral for a broader shortlist.

Are Megaways slots high volatility?

Most are, though not all. Every Megaways title in our comparison table is rated high, very high or medium-to-high volatility. That means long runs of small or no wins, with much of the return concentrated in free spins where cascades and multipliers build up. A £40 session at 20p a spin can end without a single feature. If you prefer steadier play, a lower-volatility slot suits better. Our explainer are Megaways slots better weighs the trade-offs.

Can I buy the bonus on Megaways slots at Coral?

No. Feature buy, also called bonus buy, isn't offered to players in Great Britain, so the button found in some overseas versions of Megaways games is removed at Coral. Free spins must be triggered through normal play, usually by landing scatter symbols. This applies at every UKGC-licensed casino, not just Coral. The rule exists because buying features let players stake large sums very quickly. Read can you buy bonuses on UK slots for the background.

What is the maximum bet on Megaways slots at Coral?

£5 a spin if you are 25 or over, and £2 a spin if you are 18 to 24. These are UK legal limits on online slots, in force since 2025, and they apply to every Megaways game at Coral, jackpot editions included. The game's own maximum may be lower. With high-volatility Megaways games, a smaller stake gives you more spins and a better chance of seeing the feature within your budget. Our page on UK slot stake limits covers the rules.

Can I use Coral's welcome spins on Megaways games?

Only if a Megaways title is among the selected games in Coral's offer terms. New players aged 18+ who deposit and bet £10 or more on slots receive 100 free spins at 10p each, to accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days, with no wagering on winnings. Some payment methods, including PayPal and Skrill, don't qualify. The eligible games are set in the terms, so check the list when you claim. Your qualifying £10 can go on any Megaways slot. See Coral free spins.

Are Coral's exclusive Megaways games fair?

Exclusive games such as Big Banker Megaways are built by licensed studios and must meet the same UK testing standards as any other slot before Coral can offer them. The results come from a certified random number generator, and the RTP is shown in the help screen. What exclusives lack is outside coverage, so you have fewer independent sources on their features. Read the rules screen carefully before playing. For how UK testing works, see how online slots are tested in the UK.
