Relax Gaming slots

Relax Gaming slots come from a Malta-based supplier founded in 2010 that only started building its own games in 2018, then produced the Money Train series and the Dream Drop jackpot network. Relax also distributes games from partner studios, so not everything filed under its name in a lobby was made in-house. This page separates the two and explains the maths behind its best-known games.

Key takeaways

  • Relax Gaming was founded in 2010 by Patrik Österåker and Jani Tekoniemi; it began in Tallinn and is now headquartered in Malta.
  • It has made its own slots since 2018 and also distributes partner studios through its Silver Bullet and Powered By programmes.
  • Each Money Train sequel raised the top prize, from 20,000x to 150,000x, while default RTPs stayed between 96.1% and 96.4%.
  • Dream Drop, launched in 2022, is Relax’s progressive jackpot network.

What Relax Gaming is, and why it matters in a lobby

Relax Gaming was founded in 2010 by Patrik Österåker and Jani Tekoniemi. The company began in Tallinn, Estonia, and is now headquartered in Malta. It holds a Gambling Commission licence for Great Britain (account 37462, Relax Gaming Ltd) and is also regulated in Malta, Gibraltar, Alderney, Denmark, Romania and Ontario.

For most of its first decade Relax was a supplier rather than a slot brand. It has released its own in-house slots only since 2018, and within a few years it had one of the most recognisable series in UK lobbies, Money Train. That dual role, studio and distributor, is the key to understanding what you see under its name.

Relax as a studio and as a distributor

Relax runs two partner programmes, Silver Bullet and Powered By, through which independent studios release games on its platform. Stockholm’s Thunderkick, for example, is a Powered By partner. Casinos that connect to Relax receive both the in-house games and these partner titles, and some lobbies file everything under one Relax Gaming heading.

It matters because maths habits follow the studio that designed the game, not the distributor. A Thunderkick game in a Relax-labelled row will play like Thunderkick.

The Money Train series: how the maths changed

Money Train is Relax’s signature series, set aboard a western train robbery. Each game has a respins bonus in which special symbols lock in place and collect, add to or multiply the values around them, a variation on the hold and win format. What changed with each release is the ceiling.

GameReleasedRTPLayoutMax win
Money Train201996.2%5×4, 40 paylines20,000x
Money Train 2Not listed96.40%5×4, 40 paylines50,000x
Money Train 3202296.1%5×4, 40 paylines100,000x
Money Train 4202396.1%6×6, scatter pays 8+150,000x

From the first game to the fourth, the top prize rose 7.5 times while the RTP stayed in a narrow band. The total return didn’t grow, so the extra ceiling had to come from somewhere: more of the return moved into rare, very large bonus outcomes and less into everyday wins. Money Train 3 is described as sitting at the top of Relax’s own volatility scale. Our Money Train 2 vs Money Train 3 comparison shows the trade-off side by side.

Worked example: £50 on Money Train 2 vs Money Train 4

Say you stake 25p a spin for 200 spins, £50 in total, on each game.

  • Money Train 2 at 96.40%: long-run expected cost about £1.80. Max win at 25p: £12,500.
  • Money Train 4 at 96.1%: long-run expected cost about £1.95. Max win at 25p: £37,500.

The average cost is close; the shape of the session differs. With the higher ceiling, a larger share of sessions will finish without the bonus or with a small one, balanced by rare large results. Neither figure predicts what will happen in one sitting, and the house edge applies to both.

Dream Drop: Relax Gaming’s jackpot network

Relax launched Dream Drop in 2022 as a progressive jackpot that sits on top of selected games. A share of each stake on a Dream Drop version feeds a set of pooled prizes, and a jackpot can be triggered on a qualifying spin. Some partner studios release Dream Drop editions too; Print Studios’ Royal Potato: Dream Drop is one example.

A Dream Drop edition usually has a lower base-game return than the standard version of the same title, because part of the RTP is diverted into the pots. Check the help screen for the RTP, which may be shown split between the base game and the jackpot. Our guide on how progressive jackpots work explains the trade-off between jackpot size and everyday returns.

How to find and check Relax Gaming slots

  1. Search the casino lobby for Relax Gaming or for a title such as Money Train 2.
  2. Open the game and check the loading screen to see whether Relax or a partner studio made it.
  3. Read the help screen for the RTP, volatility and max win; on Dream Drop editions, note how much of the return goes to the jackpot.
  4. Try the age-verified demo if you are new to the respins feature.
  5. Set a deposit limit before playing for real money.

UK rules on Relax Gaming slots

Relax games in Great Britain follow the standard rules: £5 per spin maximum for over-25s, £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, a minimum 2.5 seconds per spin, no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop, and no bonus buy, even though some versions sold elsewhere include one. Demos require age verification first. Our UK slot rules page lists every requirement.

Frequently asked questions

Who founded Relax Gaming?

Relax Gaming was founded in 2010 by Patrik Österåker and Jani Tekoniemi. The company started in Tallinn, Estonia, and later moved its headquarters to Malta. It spent its early years as a supplier of games and technology to casinos and only began releasing its own slots in 2018. It is licensed in Great Britain under Gambling Commission account 37462. Our providers hub lists the other studios we cover and how they compare.

What is the best Relax Gaming slot?

Money Train 2 is a strong all-rounder in the Relax range, combining a 96.40% RTP, high volatility and a 50,000x top prize. If you prefer an even higher ceiling, Money Train 4 reaches 150,000x at 96.1%. For a steadier session, TNT Tumble at medium to high volatility is gentler than the Money Train games. The right choice depends on your budget and appetite for long dry spells. Our Money Train 2 review covers the series favourite in depth.

What is Dream Drop?

Dream Drop is Relax Gaming’s progressive jackpot network, launched in 2022. Selected games, including some from partner studios, come in Dream Drop editions where a share of each stake feeds pooled jackpot prizes that can be won on a qualifying spin. Because part of the return goes to the jackpots, the base game usually returns less than the standard version of the same title. Check the help screen for the live RTP. See our progressive jackpot slots page for how this compares with other networks.

Does Relax Gaming make every game listed under its name?

No. Relax distributes games from partner studios through its Silver Bullet and Powered By programmes, and some casinos list those titles under the Relax Gaming heading. Thunderkick, for example, is a Powered By partner. The loading screen and help credits show which studio actually designed a game, and that studio’s maths habits are what you should expect. Our Thunderkick slots page covers one of these partners in detail.

Why does each Money Train game have a bigger max win?

Each sequel moved more of the game’s return into rare, very large bonus results. The top prize grew from 20,000x on the first game to 50,000x, 100,000x and then 150,000x on Money Train 4, but the RTP stayed between 96.1% and 96.4%. With the total return fixed, a bigger ceiling means fewer mid-sized wins and a spikier session. A higher max win is not a better chance of winning. Our guide to slot max wins explains this relationship.

Is Relax Gaming licensed in the UK?

Yes. Relax Gaming Ltd holds a Gambling Commission licence, account 37462, which allows UK-licensed casinos to offer its games. It is also regulated in Malta, Gibraltar, Alderney, Denmark, Romania and Ontario. Every Relax game offered in Britain must meet the Commission’s testing standards and the game design rules on spin speed, autoplay and stake limits. Always check the casino is licensed too. Our UKGC glossary entry explains what the regulator does.

How does the Money Train respins bonus work?

The Money Train bonus is a respins round triggered by landing enough bonus symbols. Those symbols lock in place and the respin counter resets each time a new one lands. Special symbols in the round can collect values from others, add to them or multiply them, and some persist across later respins. The round ends when the counter runs out or the grid fills, and the values on screen are paid. Exact symbols differ between games. Our guide to how hold and win works covers the general format.

Can I buy the bonus on Relax Gaming slots in the UK?

No. Feature buys are not offered to players in Great Britain, so Relax games here reach their bonus rounds only through normal spins, even where versions sold elsewhere include a buy option. This keeps every spin within the stake limits of £5 for over-25s and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. Videos of bought bonuses don’t reflect how often features land in normal play. See can you buy bonuses on UK slots for why the option is missing here.

Are Relax Gaming slots good for low stakes?

Relax games can be played at low stakes, but most of the best-known ones are high volatility, so a small budget may run out before the bonus lands. At 10p a spin, £20 gives you 200 spins, which is a reasonable minimum for a game like Money Train 2. TNT Tumble is the gentler choice in the Relax range we cover. Whatever you play, set a budget first and stop when it is spent. Our low-stake slots page has more ideas.
