The Starlight Princess slot is Pragmatic Play’s anime-styled pays-anywhere game: eight or more matching symbols anywhere on a 6×5 grid pay, wins tumble away, and multiplier orbs worth 2x to 500x are added together at the end of each tumble sequence. It runs at a published 96.50% RTP, high volatility and a 5,000x maximum win.
Pays anywhere: 8+ matching symbols on the 6×5 grid win, with no paylines to follow.
Multiplier orbs from 2x to 500x can land in the base game and in free spins; their values are added, then applied to the tumble’s total win.
Four or more scatters give 15 free spins with a running multiplier total that keeps growing for the rest of the round.
96.50% is the published RTP; UK casinos may run a lower version, so check the help screen before you play.

Starlight Princess slot in one minute
Starlight Princess takes the engine Pragmatic Play made famous with Gates of Olympus and wraps it in a bright anime look: a magical girl floats beside the reels, waving a wand, while gems, jewelled treasures fill a six-reel, five-row screen. Nothing pays along a line. Instead the game counts symbols, and any eight matching ones in view form a win wherever they sit.
Three ideas carry the whole game. Tumbles remove winning symbols so new ones can fall in. Multiplier orbs land at random, and their values are summed and applied once a tumble sequence has finished. Free spins keep a running total of those orbs, so later wins in the round can be boosted heavily. Understanding how those three interact tells you most of what you need to know about why sessions on this slot swing so much.
How the Starlight Princess grid pays
The game uses a pay anywhere system, sometimes called scatter pays. On every spin the game counts each symbol type across all 30 positions. Eight or more of one kind is a win; ten or more pays more; twelve or more pays the top tier for that symbol. Position does not matter, so a symbol in the top-left corner counts just as much as one in the middle.
Symbols split into two groups. The lower-paying set is made of coloured gems, which appear often and form most small wins. The higher-paying set uses larger themed icons drawn from the princess’s magical world, which land less often but pay more for the same count. The princess herself is the scatter that unlocks the bonus. The exact payouts for each symbol at your stake are shown in the paytable, and reading it once is worthwhile because the gap between a gem win and a premium-symbol win is large.

A tumble sequence, step by step
Tumbles are where most of the action happens, and the order of events explains how multipliers are applied. A single paid spin can contain several tumbles, but it is still one spin and one stake.
You press spin; 30 symbols land and the game counts each type.
Any symbol with 8 or more copies on screen is a win. The win is noted and those symbols explode.
Symbols above fall down and new ones drop in from the top to fill the gaps.
The game counts again. If a new group of 8+ has formed, steps 2 and 3 repeat.
When no more wins form, the sequence ends. If any multiplier orbs are on screen and at least one win happened, their values are added together.
That combined multiplier is applied to the total of every win in the sequence, and the result is paid.
Here is a worked example at a 40p stake. The first drop pays £0.80 for gems; a tumble then adds a £1.20 win on a premium symbol, so the sequence totals £2.00. A 3x orb and a 10x orb are both on the grid when the tumbles stop. They are added, giving 13x, and the payout becomes £2.00 × 13 = £26.00, which is 65 times the stake. Had the same orbs landed on a spin with no win at all, they would have done nothing. That is the key thing new players miss: orbs need a win to attach to.
Starlight Princess free spins and the running multiplier
Four or more princess scatters anywhere on the grid trigger 15 free spins. The round looks like the base game, but one rule changes everything: every time a multiplier orb lands on a tumble sequence that includes a win, its value is added to a running total. From then on, that total is applied to each winning sequence for the rest of the round.
Suppose the round opens with a 5x orb on a winning tumble, so the running total is 5x. Two spins later, an 8x orb lands on another win, and the total climbs to 13x. A plain £1.50 win on spin nine is then paid at £1.50 × 13 = £19.50, even if no orb appears on that spin. This is why free spins rounds that build a big total early tend to finish strongly, and why rounds that never catch an orb on a win can end below the cost of 100 spins.
Scatters can land again during the round to extend it; the help screen states the exact number of extra spins and how many scatters are needed. In Great Britain the round can only be reached by landing the scatters, because feature buys are not offered here. For a broader explanation of how bonus rounds start and extend, see how slot features trigger.
Starlight Princess RTP and volatility in pounds
Pragmatic Play publishes Starlight Princess at 96.50% RTP. Over a very large number of spins, that means the game is designed to return about £96.50 for every £100 staked, so the house edge is 3.5%. Like most Pragmatic games, other RTP versions can be supplied to casinos, and the help screen inside the game shows the figure running on the site you are using.
High volatility means that return arrives unevenly. Long stretches of small gem wins and dead spins are normal, and a large share of the RTP is concentrated in rare free spins rounds with a big running multiplier. The table shows what the long-run figure implies for some typical sessions. Real sessions will land well above or below these averages; a few hundred spins are far too few for RTP to settle.

The 5,000x max win and how realistic it is
Starlight Princess caps any single spin or bonus round at 5,000 times the stake. At 20p that is £1,000; at £1 it is £5,000; at the £5 UK maximum for players aged 25 and over it would be £25,000. When the cap is reached, the round ends and the capped amount is paid, as explained on our max win page.
Reaching the cap needs a rare combination: a free spins round that builds a large running total and then lands heavy, high-symbol tumbles on top of it. Most bonus rounds pay a fraction of that. Treat 5,000x as the ceiling that defines the game’s volatility, not as a target, and see what happens when a slot hits max win for how capped wins are handled.
How UK rules shape Starlight Princess
No feature buy: the option to pay for the free spins round is removed for players in Great Britain.
Stake limits: the maximum is £5 per spin if you are 25 or over and £2 if you are 18–24. Any optional extra-cost bet still counts towards that limit.
Spin speed: each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, with no turbo, slam-stop or autoplay.
Honest celebrations: a return smaller than your stake can’t be presented as a win, and your net position stays on screen.
The full background is in our UK slot rules guide. In practice, the 2.5-second minimum means about 1,440 spins an hour at most, and usually fewer once tumbles and animations are included.
Playing the Starlight Princess demo
A demo uses play credits and the same maths as the real game, so it is a good way to see how often orbs land and how long the gaps between bonuses can be. UK-licensed sites can only show demo games after your age has been verified, which has been the rule since May 2019. Our demo mode guide explains how to use a demo to judge a game rather than just to pass time.
Starlight Princess 1000 and related games
Pragmatic later released Starlight Princess 1000, which keeps the grid but lifts the orb range to 1,000x and the cap to 15,000x. It also sits within a family of pays-anywhere games, including Sweet Bonanza with its candy theme and fruit symbols. The table compares them using published figures.
Starlight Princess and Gates of Olympus are near twins mathematically on paper, with the same RTP and cap; the choice between them is mostly about which look you prefer. Sweet Bonanza uses a different multiplier rule, with bombs that only appear in free spins, and has a much higher ceiling.
Starlight Princess pros and cons
Advantages
Multipliers can appear in the base game, so not every big result depends on the bonus.
Simple rules: count symbols, watch tumbles, add up orbs.
Running multiplier gives free spins a clear sense of build-up.
Published RTP of 96.50% is above many older slots.
Drawbacks
High volatility means long losing runs are normal.
Orbs that land on a spin with no win do nothing, which can feel frustrating.
5,000x cap is modest next to newer high-ceiling games.
Lower RTP versions may be running at some casinos.
Who the Starlight Princess slot suits
This is a game for adults who enjoy volatile, feature-led slots and can accept many quiet spins between moments of excitement. If you prefer frequent small returns, a low volatility game such as Starburst will feel steadier. If you play it, set a session budget first and treat any money spent as the cost of entertainment, because losses over time are the expected outcome.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Starlight Princess?
Starlight Princess has a published RTP of 96.50%, meaning it is designed to return about £96.50 for every £100 staked over a very long run. Pragmatic Play can supply other RTP versions, and some UK casinos may run a lower one, so open the game’s help or information screen to see the figure in use on that site. Even at the full figure, short sessions vary widely because the game is highly volatile. Our RTP versions guide explains why the same slot can pay back differently at two casinos.
How many free spins do you get on Starlight Princess?
Four or more princess scatters award 15 free spins. During the round, any multiplier orb that lands on a winning tumble adds its value to a running total, which then applies to every later win in the round. More scatters landing during the bonus can extend it, and the help screen sets out exactly how many extra spins are given. There is no way to buy the round in Great Britain. Read more about how retriggers work in how free spins retrigger.
How big can Starlight Princess multipliers get?
A single multiplier orb in Starlight Princess can be worth up to 500x, with the lowest at 2x. When several orbs are on screen at the end of a winning tumble sequence, their values are added rather than multiplied, so a 20x and a 50x orb combine to 70x. In free spins, orb values build a running total for the round. All of this still sits under the 5,000x overall cap. Our guide to how multipliers work in slots compares the different multiplier systems.
Is Starlight Princess the same as Gates of Olympus?
Starlight Princess and Gates of Olympus share the same core design: a 6×5 pays-anywhere grid, tumbles, random multiplier orbs and a running multiplier in free spins. Both list a 96.50% RTP, high volatility and a 5,000x maximum win. The differences are mainly visual, with an anime princess in place of Zeus and different symbol art. If you enjoy one, the other will feel familiar. Our Gates of Olympus review covers that game’s details.
How much can you win on Starlight Princess?
The maximum win on Starlight Princess is 5,000 times your stake. At a 50p stake that would be £2,500, and at £2, the top stake for UK players aged 18 to 24, it would be £10,000. Once a round reaches the cap it ends and the capped amount is paid. Results anywhere near this are very rare, and most bonus rounds pay far less. Our max win explainer shows how studios set and enforce these limits.
Can you play Starlight Princess for free in the UK?
Yes, many UK-licensed sites offer a demo version of Starlight Princess, but only after you have registered and passed an age check, a rule in place since May 2019. The demo uses play credits, so you can’t win or lose real money, and it follows the same rules as the real-money game. It is useful for seeing how often orbs land and how long bonus droughts can last. See what a slot demo is for more.
Is Starlight Princess high volatility?
Yes, Starlight Princess is rated high volatility. That means most spins return nothing or a small gem win, while a large share of the game’s return comes from occasional free spins rounds with large running multipliers. In practice, a £50 budget can run out before a bonus appears, and session results swing far more than on a low-volatility slot. Our volatility guide explains how to match a game’s variance to your budget and stake.
What is the maximum stake on Starlight Princess in the UK?
In Great Britain, the maximum stake on any online slot, including Starlight Princess, is £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. These limits came in during 2025 and apply whatever the game’s own settings allow. Casinos must check your age and apply the correct cap. Our stake limits guide explains how the limits work across different slot sites.
Is there a bonus buy on Starlight Princess?
Not in Great Britain. Versions of Starlight Princess elsewhere may let players pay a fixed amount to go straight to free spins, but feature buys are not offered to British players. Here the free spins round is reached only by landing four or more scatters during normal play. That keeps the cost per spin within the UK stake limits. Our page on whether you can buy bonuses on UK slots explains the background.
Do multiplier orbs work in the Starlight Princess base game?
Yes. Unlike some similar games where multipliers appear only in the bonus, Starlight Princess orbs can land on any base game spin. They count only if the tumble sequence includes at least one win; then all orb values on screen are added and applied to that sequence’s total. An orb on a spin with no win simply disappears. This makes the base game more volatile than a typical pays-anywhere slot. See our pay anywhere slots page for similar games.
