Sugar Rush slot review

The Sugar Rush slot is a Pragmatic Play cluster-pays game on a 7×7 grid of sweets, where groups of five or more touching symbols pay and every explosion marks the square underneath. Hit a marked square again and it becomes a multiplier that doubles each time, up to 128x. It is high volatility, with a published 96.50% RTP and a 5,000x maximum win.

Sugar Rush slot: the short version

Sugar Rush looks like a sweet shop shelf: gummy bears, jelly beans, hearts and stars piled on a square board with a pastel candyland behind it. Under the cheerful art is one of Pragmatic Play’s more interesting mechanics. Instead of multipliers dropping in at random, they grow from the board itself, square by square, wherever wins keep happening in the same place.

That design rewards long tumble chains. A spin that keeps forming clusters in one corner can build a stack of doubling multipliers, while a spin with one small win and nothing else leaves only a faint mark. Free spins keep those marks for the whole round, which is where the game earns its high volatility rating.

How Sugar Rush clusters pay

Sugar Rush uses cluster pays. A win forms when five or more identical symbols touch each other horizontally or vertically; diagonal contact does not count. Larger clusters pay more, and the paytable sets out the value of each symbol for cluster sizes from five up to fifteen or more. Pragmatic Play’s description lists cluster wins of up to 150x the stake for the best symbol in a very large group.

Every win triggers a tumble. The winning sweets burst, those above drop down, and fresh ones fall in from the top. If a new cluster forms, it pays and the process repeats. The whole chain belongs to one paid spin, so a long chain costs nothing extra. Our explainer on how cluster pays works compares the grid styles different studios use.

The 7×7 grid has 49 squares. Because clusters must touch, a symbol type spread thinly across the board pays nothing, while the same number bunched together can pay well. That is a different feel from pays-anywhere games such as Sweet Bonanza.

Sugar Rush multiplier spots, explained square by square

This is the feature that defines the game. Each time a winning symbol explodes, the square it sat on is marked. If a later winning symbol explodes on a marked square during the same spin, that square turns into a multiplier of 2x. Every further explosion on it doubles the value, up to 128x. Any cluster that includes the square has its win multiplied.

A worked example at 50p

Your first cluster of jelly beans pays £0.25 and marks five squares. The tumble brings in a cluster of hearts that overlaps one of those squares, which becomes 2x; the hearts pay £0.40 × 2 = £0.80. Another tumble sends bears across the same square, now 4x, and their £0.60 win becomes £2.40. The spin totals £3.45, almost seven times the stake, from three ordinary clusters that happened to overlap. In the base game, the marks clear once the tumbles stop, so the next spin starts on a clean board.

Sugar Rush free spins: 10 to 30 spins with sticky marks

Scatters trigger the bonus round, and the number of spins depends on how many land in one spin.

The vital difference is persistence. During free spins, marked squares and their multipliers stay where they are for the rest of the round rather than clearing after each spin. A square that reaches 16x on spin three is still there on spin ten, and can keep doubling. Rounds that mark a dense patch of the board early can grow into very large payouts; rounds where wins scatter thinly across the grid often end modestly. Feature buys aren’t offered in Great Britain, so this round can only be reached by landing scatters.

Sugar Rush RTP: what 96.50% means for your balance

Pragmatic Play publishes Sugar Rush at 96.50% RTP, a house edge of 3.5%. Over £100 of spins the average cost is £3.50, but that average hides a very wide spread. Casinos may run a lower RTP version; the information screen inside the game shows which one is live.

The table compares how many spins a fixed budget buys at different stakes, which is a more useful planning figure than the RTP alone.

BudgetStakeSpins if nothing is wonAverage cost if all spins are played
£2020p100£0.70
£5050p100£1.75
£5020p250£1.75
£100£1100£3.50

Note the two £50 rows. Same budget, same average cost, but 20p spins give two and a half times as many chances to reach free spins. On a high-volatility game, that difference shapes the session far more than the RTP does. Our bankroll management guide explains this trade-off.

Sugar Rush max win: 5,000x

Any spin or bonus round is capped at 5,000 times the stake: £500 at 10p, £2,500 at 50p and £10,000 at the £2 limit that applies to players aged 18 to 24. Getting close requires several squares stacked high in free spins with large clusters crossing them, which happens very rarely. Most bonus rounds land far below the cap.

Playing Sugar Rush under UK rules

A sensible routine before the first paid spin takes a minute and fits neatly around these rules:

  1. Open the game and tap the information icon to confirm the RTP version the casino is running.
  2. Read the paytable once so you know what a five-symbol cluster of each sweet is worth at your stake.
  3. Set the stake with the coin controls, keeping it within your session budget and the legal limit for your age.
  4. Press spin for each round yourself; there is no autoplay, so every spin is a separate decision.
  5. Watch the net position display and stop when you reach the limit you set in advance.
  • The most you can stake is £5 a spin if you are 25 or older, or £2 if you are 18 to 24.
  • Each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, and there is no autoplay or turbo mode.
  • There’s no bonus buy, so free spins come only from scatters.
  • The demo is available only after a site has checked your age.

Fruit Party is Sugar Rush’s closest relative: same grid and similar figures, but its multipliers attach at random to winning symbols rather than growing on squares. Jammin’ Jars has a bigger board and higher ceiling, while Reactoonz builds charge meters across the screen. Drawbacks

  • High volatility: many spins return little or nothing.

Who will enjoy the Sugar Rush slot

Sugar Rush suits adults who like watching a board develop and don’t mind waiting for the bonus to deliver most of the value. The sweet-shop art is bright, but the maths is serious, and the game should be played with a fixed budget and the understanding that losses are the likely result over time. Frequently asked questions

How do multiplier spots work in Sugar Rush?

When a winning symbol explodes, its square is marked. If another winning symbol explodes on that marked square, it becomes a 2x multiplier, and each further explosion there doubles it, up to 128x. Any cluster that covers the square has its win multiplied. In the base game the marks clear after each spin; in free spins they stay for the whole round. Our multiplier slots page covers other ways games apply multipliers.

How many free spins does Sugar Rush give?

Sugar Rush awards between 10 and 30 free spins depending on how many scatters land: 3 give 10, 4 give 12, 5 give 15, 6 give 20 and 7 give 30. During the round, marked squares and multipliers don’t reset between spins, so they can keep doubling. In Great Britain, the round can only be reached by landing scatters, as feature buys aren’t offered. See what a slot bonus round is for the basics.

What is the RTP of Sugar Rush?

Sugar Rush has a published RTP of 96.50%, so it is designed to return about £96.50 for every £100 staked over a very long period. Some casinos may run a lower version, so check the figure in the game’s information screen before playing. Over a short session the result can be far above or below that average because the game is high volatility. Our guide what is a good RTP puts the figure in context.

How much can you win on Sugar Rush?

The maximum win on Sugar Rush is 5,000 times your stake per spin or bonus round. At 20p that is £1,000; at £1 it is £5,000. Reaching it would need several very high multiplier squares and large clusters landing on them during free spins, which is extremely rare. If you want a higher ceiling on the same grid, Sugar Rush 1000 goes to 25,000×. Our max win explainer explains how caps work.

How high can a Sugar Rush multiplier go?

A single multiplier square in Sugar Rush can reach 128x. It starts at 2x on the second explosion on that square and doubles each time after, so it takes eight explosions on the same square to reach the top. Getting there in the base game is rare because marks clear after every spin, but it is more achievable in free spins, where squares persist. Read more on the mechanic in our multipliers guide.

Is Sugar Rush high volatility?

Yes, Sugar Rush is rated high volatility. Many spins return nothing or a small cluster win below the stake, and much of the game’s return comes from free spins rounds where multiplier squares build up. That means sessions can vary hugely, and a modest budget may run out before a bonus lands. Choosing a smaller stake gives you more spins for the same money. Our volatility guide explains how to read these ratings.

What is the difference between Sugar Rush and Sweet Bonanza?

Both are Pragmatic Play sweet-themed slots, but they pay differently. Sugar Rush uses clusters of five or more touching symbols on a 7×7 grid, with multipliers that grow on marked squares. Sweet Bonanza uses a 6×5 grid where eight or more matching symbols anywhere pay, with random bomb multipliers in free spins. Sweet Bonanza also has a higher maximum win. Our Sweet Bonanza vs Sugar Rush page compares them in detail.

Can I play Sugar Rush for free?

Many UK-licensed casinos offer a Sugar Rush demo, but you have to register and pass an age check first; demos have only been available to verified adults since 2019. The demo uses play money and the same rules as the paid version, so it is a fair way to see how multiplier squares build. You can’t withdraw anything from a demo. For genuine free spins offers with stated conditions, see free spins on Sugar Rush.

Do Sugar Rush multipliers stay after a spin?

Only in free spins. In the base game, marked squares and multipliers last for the tumbles of a single spin and then clear, so each new paid spin starts with a fresh board. During free spins, every mark and multiplier stays in place until the round ends and can keep doubling with further explosions. That persistence is why the bonus round carries so much of the game’s value. See how cascading reels work for how tumbles interact with features.
