The Aloha! Cluster Pays slot is a 2016 NetEnt game on a 6 × 5 grid where wins come from clusters of nine or more matching symbols rather than lines. Sticky Win Re-Spins lock a winning cluster and try to grow it, and free spins remove low symbols as they go. The top RTP version returns 96.42%.
Wins need a connected group of at least nine matching symbols on the 6 × 5 grid.
Sticky Win Re-Spins hold a winning cluster and re-spin the rest while it keeps growing.
Free spins remove flowers, shells, coconuts and pineapples in stages, leaving only Tikis.
Top RTP is 96.42%, with a large share of it coming from the free spins round.

How the Aloha! Cluster Pays slot pays: clusters, not lines
Aloha! Cluster Pays, released by NetEnt in 2016, drops the idea of paylines altogether. The grid has six reels and five rows, 30 positions in all, and a win forms when at least nine identical symbols touch each other horizontally or vertically. Diagonal contact does not count. The bigger the cluster, the higher the payout from that symbol’s pay scale.
The setting is a Hawaiian beach at sunset, with flowers, shells, coconuts and pineapples as the lower symbols and carved Tiki heads as the premiums. It is a relaxed, bright look rather than an intense one. The game belongs to the wider family of cluster pays slots, though its nine-symbol minimum is higher than the five most grid games use.

Reading a cluster: a worked example
Picture a spin where pineapples land across the left half of the grid. Count only those connected edge to edge: if eleven touch in a single group, that is an 11-symbol pineapple cluster and it pays from the 11 band of the pineapple pay scale. Two more pineapples sitting alone on the far right are not part of it and add nothing. If only eight are connected, nothing pays at all, even with fifteen pineapples visible across the screen.
That is why the paytable is set out as cluster-size bands rather than three, four or five of a kind. Open it with your stake already chosen to see real pound values for each band. Our glossary entry on cluster pays and the guide to reading a slot paytable explain the format in more detail.
Sticky Win Re-Spins: how a cluster grows
After a cluster win, Sticky Win Re-Spins can be triggered. The symbols in the winning cluster lock in place and every other position re-spins. If the re-spin adds more matching symbols to the cluster, they lock too and the game re-spins again. The sequence ends when a re-spin fails to grow the cluster, or when the cluster fills the entire grid, which pays that symbol’s top prize.
A cluster of nine or more matching symbols lands and pays.
Sticky Win Re-Spins can start: the winning symbols are held.
All other positions re-spin.
Any new matching symbols that connect are added and held.
Re-spins continue until the cluster stops growing or fills all 30 positions.
This is a form of respin and works a little like sticky wilds, except that the symbols held are the cluster’s own. It is the base game’s main source of mid-sized wins.
Aloha! Cluster Pays free spins and Symbol Drop
Free spins start when three free spins symbols, shown as postage stamps, land. NetEnt’s game page sets the round at nine spins, plus one for each extra symbol, to a maximum of 12. Free spins symbols landing during the round add more spins: one for three, two for four, three for five and four for six.
The defining feature is Symbol Drop. As the round goes on, low-value symbols are taken out of the reels in stages, which makes the remaining symbols more likely to form large clusters.

Once only the Tiki symbols remain, every cluster is a premium cluster, and whole-grid fills become far more plausible. That is why retriggering past the eighth spin matters so much. NetEnt notes that a large share of the game’s RTP comes from this round. As always in Great Britain, there is no bonus buy option.
RTP and volatility: what to expect over a session
The top version returns 96.42%, and casinos may run lower ones, so check the help screen. At 96.42%, the house edge is 3.58%: 100 spins at 50p means £50 staked and an expected cost of about £1.79. Over 300 spins at £1, the expected cost on £300 staked is about £10.74.
NetEnt’s own page rates the game as low volatility. In practice, that suggests the balance moves in small steps, but the nine-symbol minimum means many spins return nothing at all. Because so much of the RTP sits in free spins, the experience can be steadier than a high-volatility game yet still depend on the feature. Our volatility guide and low volatility slots page explain the pattern.

Max win on Aloha! Cluster Pays
NetEnt does not state a single max win multiplier on its game page. The top outcome described there is a cluster that fills the whole grid, which pays that symbol’s highest prize; with Tikis that is the game’s best single result. We do not quote a figure we could not verify. In Great Britain, stakes are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24, which sets the scale of any prize.
How to play Aloha! Cluster Pays
Open the paytable to see cluster-size bands at your chosen stake.
Check the help screen for the RTP version running at your casino.

Watch for clusters of nine or more and any Sticky Win Re-Spins that follow.
Land three free spins symbols to start the round and Symbol Drop.
Track your result with the net position display.
A demo is available after age verification at many UK casinos. See our free slots page for how UK demo rules work.
Aloha! Cluster Pays vs other cluster slots
Most rivals use a five-symbol minimum and larger grids. Play’n GO’s Reactoonz and Push Gaming’s Jammin’ Jars are higher-volatility examples, while Play’n GO’s Gemix sits nearer Aloha’s pace.

Aloha is the gentlest of the four and the only one built around holding a winning cluster for re-spins. If you want cascades and bigger swings, the others are a better fit.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Aloha! Cluster Pays?
Aloha! Cluster Pays has an RTP of 96.42% in its top version, and casinos may run lower settings, so check the help screen before you play. At 96.42%, the theoretical return on £100 staked over a very long run is £96.42. NetEnt notes that a large share of that return comes from the free spins round, so sessions without a trigger tend to return less. Our RTP guide explains how to read these figures.
How many matching symbols does a win need in Aloha! Cluster Pays?
You need a cluster of at least nine identical symbols touching horizontally or vertically. Diagonal contact does not count, and symbols outside the connected group add nothing. Larger clusters pay more, with the paytable split into bands by cluster size. Nine is a higher minimum than most cluster slots, which usually need five. Our cluster pays entry explains how the counting works across different games.
How do Sticky Win Re-Spins work?
After a cluster win, Sticky Win Re-Spins can start. The winning symbols lock in place and the rest of the grid re-spins; any new matching symbols that join the cluster are also held, and the re-spins continue. The feature ends when a re-spin fails to grow the cluster or when the cluster fills all 30 positions, which pays that symbol’s top prize. Our respin entry compares similar features.
How do the Aloha! Cluster Pays free spins work?
Three free spins symbols start a round of nine spins, with one extra spin for each additional symbol, up to 12. During the round, Symbol Drop removes low symbols in stages: flowers after two spins, shells after four, coconuts after six and pineapples after eight, leaving only Tikis. More free spins symbols add extra spins. There is no feature buy in Great Britain. See our free spins feature entry for more.
Is Aloha! Cluster Pays low volatility?
NetEnt’s own game page rates Aloha! Cluster Pays as low volatility. That means the balance usually moves in smaller steps than on high-variance games. The nine-symbol minimum still produces plenty of empty spins, and much of the return depends on free spins, so short sessions can still vary. Our low volatility slots page explains what calmer maths does and does not mean for a budget.
What is the Aloha! Cluster Pays max win?
NetEnt does not publish a single max win multiplier on its game page, so we do not quote one. The best outcome described is a cluster that fills the whole 6 × 5 grid, which pays that symbol’s highest prize, with Tiki symbols paying the most. UK stake limits of £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24 set the scale of any prize. Read what max win means.
Can I play the Aloha! Cluster Pays demo for free?
Yes, many UK casinos offer an Aloha! Cluster Pays demo, but only after age verification, which has been required since May 2019. Demo play uses credits with no cash value and the same maths as the real game, so you can see how Sticky Win Re-Spins and Symbol Drop work before staking. Our demo mode entry explains UK demo rules in more detail.
When was Aloha! Cluster Pays released?
NetEnt released Aloha! Cluster Pays in 2016. It was one of the studio’s early cluster-pays games and introduced Sticky Win Re-Spins and the staged Symbol Drop in free spins. The game has stayed widely available at UK casinos since, and its six-by-five grid remains smaller and simpler than most cluster games released after it. For NetEnt’s other well-known titles and how the studio fits within its parent group, see our NetEnt slots page.
Is Aloha! Cluster Pays similar to Reactoonz?
Both use clusters instead of lines, but they play very differently. Aloha! Cluster Pays uses a 6 × 5 grid, needs nine symbols for a win, holds clusters for re-spins and is rated low volatility. Reactoonz uses a 7 × 7 grid, needs five symbols, removes winning clusters in cascades and is high volatility, with a 96.51% RTP. Read our Reactoonz review for how its features build.
