Key takeaways

  • Two or more wilds in one spin make their reels hot and start a respin that repeats while new wilds land.
  • Three scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 award eight free spins; any reel a wild lands on stays hot for the round.
  • Free spins can’t be retriggered, so the round’s length is fixed at eight spins.
  • High volatility and a 96.29% default RTP: simple to read, but results swing hard.

What is the Hot Sync slot?

Hot Sync is Quickspin’s take on a classic-symbol slot with a modern feature engine underneath. The look is retro, but the game is a five-reel, 20-line video slot built around one idea: wilds that make reels ‘hot’, and hot reels that throw out more wilds. Everything else in the game supports that loop.

Because it has just two features and a familiar symbol set, Hot Sync is easy to follow from the first spin. The challenge is the volatility. Wins in the base game are modest, and the bigger payouts depend on wild chains and a good free spins round.

Look and feel: classic symbols, turned up loud

Quickspin describes the setting as bright, bold and funky, and that captures it. The symbols are the traditional icons you’d associate with classic slots and fruit slots, but they sit on a modern five-reel frame with vivid colours and energetic animation when reels heat up. If you like the simplicity of a fruit machine but want a feature to watch for, the format makes sense.

How to play Hot Sync in five steps

  1. Open Hot Sync at a UK-licensed casino; free demo play needs age verification first.
  2. Read the paytable and check the RTP your casino shows (96.29% is the default).
  3. Set your stake per spin; all 20 lines are always active.
  4. Spin; wins pay along paylines from left to right.
  5. Look for two or more wilds to start a respin, or three scatters for free spins.

Quickspin’s product page mentions autoplay and fast play. Neither is available to players in Great Britain, where every spin must be started manually and last at least 2.5 seconds.

Hot reel respins: how the wild chain works

The base-game feature starts when two or more wild symbols land on the same spin. The reels holding those wilds become hot, and a respin follows. During the respin, the hot reels throw additional wilds onto the grid. If a new wild lands, another respin is triggered, and the chain continues until a respin produces no new wild.

A worked example

Say wilds land on reels 2 and 4. Both reels turn hot and the game respins. Hot reels add wilds, and one lands on reel 3, so that reel heats up too and the game respins again. This time no new wild appears, so the chain ends and wins on all 20 lines are counted with the wilds in place. With several wilds spread across the middle reels, many lines can pay at once.

4No new wild landsThe chain ends and wins are paid

Each respin in the chain is part of the same paid spin, so you are not charged again. Our glossary entry on the wild symbol covers how wilds substitute on paylines.

Hot Sync free spins: eight spins, hot reels stay hot

Three bonus scatter symbols on a single spin award eight free spins. Scatters can only land on reels 2, 3 and 4, so you need one on each of those reels. During the round, any reel a wild lands on becomes hot for the rest of the feature, and hot reels carry extra wilds. As more reels heat up, later spins tend to have more wilds than earlier ones.

There is no retrigger, so the round always lasts eight spins. That makes the outcome depend heavily on how early wilds arrive: a round where reels heat up on the first two spins has six spins of extra wilds to work with, while one that stays cold until spin seven has only one or two. This is a big reason for the game’s high volatility, and it is similar in spirit to a sticky wild round.

Hot Sync RTP and volatility in pounds and minutes

The default RTP of 96.29% means the game returns £96.29 for every £100 staked over a very large number of spins, with a theoretical cost of £3.71. Quickspin labels it as the default, which signals that casinos may be able to choose other settings; check the help screen for the version you are playing. Our RTP guide covers how versions work.

SpinsStakeTotal stakedTheoretical costMinimum duration
30020p£60£2.2312 min 30 s
12050p£60£2.235 min
60£1£60£2.232 min 30 s

Each row stakes the same £60, so the theoretical cost is identical. What changes is how many chances you get to see a wild chain or the free spins. On a high volatility game, 60 spins at £1 can easily end without either. Our guide on how slot volatility is measured explains why short sessions swing so much.

Hot Sync max win

Quickspin’s game page does not state a maximum win, and we haven’t verified one elsewhere, so we leave it out. The game rules at your casino list the cap as a multiple of your stake. The biggest results would need several hot reels early in the free spins combined with high-paying symbols across many lines, which is rare. See our max win entry for how to read the figure when you find it.

UK rules that apply to Hot Sync

  • Maximum stake of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over; £2 for players aged 18–24.
  • No autoplay or fast play, despite what the developer’s general product description says.
  • Each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds; respins within a spin don’t cost extra.
  • No bonus buy for free spins.
  • Demo play only after age verification.

The background to each rule is in our UK slot rules guide.

Starburst is the best-known wild-respin slot, but it is low volatility and far gentler. Fire Joker is a classic-symbol game on a smaller three-reel grid. Twin Spin mixes retro symbols with a linked-reels feature. Hot Sync is the most volatile of the four.

Hot Sync pros, cons and who it suits

Advantages

  • Easy to understand: two features, both built on wilds.
  • Respin chains can add several wilds at no extra cost.
  • Hot reels in free spins give the round a building feel.

Drawbacks

  • High volatility, so sessions can end without a feature.
  • Free spins can’t be retriggered.
  • Max win isn’t published on the developer’s page.

Hot Sync suits players who like classic symbols and simple features but are comfortable with big swings. If you want the retro look with a calmer ride, a low volatility game is a better match.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Hot Sync?

Hot Sync has a default RTP of 96.29%, so it is designed to return £96.29 for every £100 staked over a very long run, a theoretical cost of £3.71 per £100. The word ‘default’ matters: some casinos may run a different setting, and the figure in the game’s help screen is the one that applies to your play. Over a short session your results will differ widely from the average because the game is high volatility. Our guide to finding a slot’s RTP shows where to look.

How does the Hot Sync respin feature work?

The respin starts when two or more wilds land on the same spin. The reels holding those wilds turn hot and the game respins. Hot reels throw extra wilds onto the grid, and every time a new wild lands another respin follows. When a respin brings no new wild, the chain ends and the wins are paid. The whole chain belongs to the original paid spin, so it costs nothing extra. For a broader explanation of respins and how they differ from free spins, see our respin glossary entry.

How many free spins do you get on Hot Sync?

Hot Sync awards eight free spins when three bonus scatter symbols land on a single spin. The scatters can only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4. During the round, any reel a wild lands on becomes hot for the rest of the feature, adding extra wilds on later spins. The free spins cannot be retriggered, so the round always ends after eight spins. Feature buys aren’t allowed in Great Britain, so scatters are the only trigger. Our free spins feature entry explains these rounds generally.

Is Hot Sync high volatility?

Yes, Hot Sync is a high volatility slot. Base-game wins are usually small, and a large share of the return comes from wild chains and free spins rounds where reels heat up early. Because the free spins can’t be retriggered, the bonus is also less predictable than on some games. Losing a session budget without seeing a feature is a normal result. If you play, a lower stake gives you more spins for the same money. Compare it with other games on our high volatility slots page.

Can I use autoplay or fast play on Hot Sync in the UK?

No. Although Quickspin’s general product description mentions autoplay and fast play, both are banned for players in Great Britain. Since October 2021, UK online slots must not offer autoplay, turbo or slam-stop, and every spin must last at least 2.5 seconds. Your casino applies these rules automatically. In practice, 300 spins on Hot Sync take at least 12 minutes and 30 seconds. The UK slot rules guide and our autoplay glossary entry explain the background to the ban.

What is the max win on Hot Sync?

Quickspin does not list a maximum win on its Hot Sync game page, and we haven’t been able to verify one, so we don’t quote a figure. The info screen inside the game at your casino shows the cap as a multiple of your stake, and that is the number to rely on. The largest wins would need a free spins round where several reels heat up early and high-paying symbols cover many of the 20 lines, which is rare. Read our max win entry for more on how caps are set.

Who makes Hot Sync?

Hot Sync is made by Quickspin, a studio founded in Stockholm in the early 2010s and part of Playtech since May 2016. Quickspin is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission and also has offices in Malta and Ukraine. It released Hot Sync in 2017, the same year as story-led games such as Sakura Fortune and Sticky Bandits. The studio is known for clean design and clear feature explanations. See more of its games on our Quickspin slots page.

Is Hot Sync a classic slot?

Hot Sync looks like a classic slot but plays like a modern video slot. It uses traditional symbols in a bright, bold style, yet it runs on five reels and 20 paylines with a wild respin chain and a free spins round, which classic three-reel games don’t have. That mix suits players who like the look of a fruit machine but want more going on. If you prefer genuinely simple games, our pages on 3 reel slots and classic slots list closer matches.
