The Planet Moolah slot, full name Invaders from the Planet Moolah, is a WMS game in which alien invaders and cows tumble down five reels and 25 paylines. It’s medium volatility, and its RTP is usually published as 96%, though some sources list 95%. That one-point gap matters, and this review shows how to check it and what it costs.
WMS, now part of Light & Wonder, built the game around cascading reels on a 5×3, 25-line grid.
Most listings give a 96% RTP, some give 95%; the help screen at your casino shows the live one.
Medium volatility: neither a steady low-risk game nor a long-odds jackpot chaser.
No verified max win figure is published, so treat any multiplier quoted elsewhere with care.

Planet Moolah: from casino floor to online slot
Invaders from the Planet Moolah is a WMS title, and WMS is one of the brands now owned by Light & Wonder, the Las Vegas group known as Scientific Games until 2022. Like many WMS games, it started life as a cabinet in land-based American casinos before the online version followed, which explains its simple 25-line layout and the heavy use of on-screen animation between spins.
The name is a pun that runs through the whole design. Moolah is slang for money, and the invaders are after cows, so the reels mix flying saucers, little green men and startled cattle in a retro B-movie style. It sits comfortably among space slots, though with more humour than most.
Planet Moolah has no connection to Mega Moolah, the Games Global progressive jackpot game. The shared word is a coincidence of slang, not a series link.
Reels, rows and the 25 Planet Moolah paylines
The grid is five reels by three rows, with 25 fixed paylines. A win needs three or more matching symbols on a line, starting from the leftmost reel. Because every line is always active, your total stake is split across all 25; on a 25p spin, each line is effectively costing 1p.
That small per-line cost is why many line wins on a game like this pay less than the total stake. UK design rules stop slots celebrating those returns with sounds or animations, so the balance and the net position display tell you the true picture.
How cascading reels change each spin
Planet Moolah’s main mechanic is cascading reels. When a spin produces a winning line, the symbols in that win are removed, the symbols above fall down to fill the gaps and new ones drop in from the top. If the new arrangement makes another win, the process repeats, all for the original stake.
Why cascades feel generous but aren’t extra
A chain of cascades can make one spin pay three or four times, which feels like a bonus. In maths terms, those follow-up wins are already counted in the game’s RTP. The designer simply moves some of the return away from single line wins and into chains. A cascade slot with a 96% RTP returns the same on average as a non-cascade slot with a 96% RTP; it just distributes the wins differently.
A useful habit is to judge a cascade game by the whole chain rather than each step: the win meter at the end of the spin, compared with your stake, is the only number that counts.
How to play Planet Moolah step by step
Open the info or help screen and find the RTP. Note whether it reads 96%, 95% or something else.
Pick a total stake. All 25 lines are always active, and UK limits cap you at £5 a spin, or £2 for 18–24s.
Spin. Each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds on UK sites, with no autoplay or turbo.
Watch cascades play out; the win meter adds up the whole chain before the spin ends.
Check the paytable for the bonus symbols, how many you need and what the free spins round offers in that version.
Wilds and the Planet Moolah free spins
Alongside the cascades, the game uses a wild symbol to complete line wins and a free spins bonus triggered by bonus symbols. During the free spins, cascades keep running, so a single free spin can produce a chain of wins in the same way as the base game, with no stake taken.
WMS doesn’t publish the trigger rules or spin counts on an official page we could verify, and online versions can differ by market. Rather than guess, open the paytable in the casino’s version and read three things: how many bonus symbols you need, on which reels, and how many free spins you get. Our guide to reading a slot paytable shows where to find each.
Planet Moolah RTP: 96% or 95%?
Slot databases mostly list Planet Moolah at 96%, while some sources show 95%. That’s common with older WMS titles, which were supplied to casinos in more than one RTP version. The developer sets the options, and each casino picks one. The help screen inside the game shows which one you’re playing.

Volatility and the Planet Moolah max win
Medium volatility means a mix of regular small wins from cascades and less frequent bigger ones, mostly in free spins. A £20 budget at 20p gives 100 spins, which is usually enough to see the game’s rhythm, though not a guarantee of a bonus round.
We haven’t found a maximum win figure from WMS or Light & Wonder, so we don’t quote one. Third-party sites give numbers, but without an official source they can’t be checked against the version you’d play. If a cap matters to you, it’s normally stated in the help screen’s rules section.
UK rules that apply to Planet Moolah
Stake limit of £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over, £2 for 18–24s.
Minimum 2.5 seconds a spin; no autoplay, no turbo and no slam-stop.
No feature buy: free spins come only from normal play.
Demo play is allowed only after age verification.
Your net position for the session must be visible on screen.
Those rules came in with the Gambling Commission’s 2021 game design changes and the 2025 stake limits. Our page on UK slot game design rules explains each one.
Gonzo’s Quest is the closest match in mechanics, with avalanches and a rising multiplier. Reactoonz shares the alien theme but plays as a high-volatility grid game. Starburst offers a space look with far lower volatility and no cascades.
Planet Moolah pros and cons

Cascades give a single spin several chances to pay
Simple 25-line layout that’s easy to follow
Light-hearted theme with a long track record on casino floors
Medium volatility suits moderate budgets
Drawbacks
RTP listed two ways, so you must check the live version
No official max win figure available
Visuals feel dated next to newer releases
Many line wins return less than the stake
It suits players who like classic American slot design and enjoy watching chains build. Anyone after a large, published top prize should look elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Planet Moolah?
Planet Moolah is most often listed at a 96% RTP, though some sources give 95%. Older WMS games were supplied in more than one version, and each casino chooses which to run. The figure that applies to you is the one shown in the game’s help or info screen at the casino you’re using. On £100 of stakes, the gap between the two is £1 on average. See how to find a slot’s RTP for where to look.
Who makes the Planet Moolah slot?
Planet Moolah, or Invaders from the Planet Moolah in full, was made by WMS, a long-established American slot maker. WMS is now one of the brands owned by Light & Wonder, the Las Vegas-based group that was called Scientific Games until it renamed itself in 2022. Other brands in the same group include Barcrest, the studio behind Rainbow Riches. Our Light & Wonder slots page covers the group’s best-known games.
Is Planet Moolah the same as Mega Moolah?
No, they are unrelated games. Planet Moolah is a WMS cascading reels slot about aliens abducting cows, while Mega Moolah is a progressive jackpot game from Games Global with a safari theme and a published RTP of 88.12%, much of which feeds the jackpots. The shared word is just slang for money. If you’re interested in jackpot games, read our Mega Moolah review and compare how the two return money.
How do cascading reels work in Planet Moolah?
When a spin creates a winning line, the winning symbols disappear and the remaining symbols fall down, with new ones dropping in from above. If that creates another win, it pays too, and the process continues until no new win forms. All of this happens on one stake. The extra wins are already included in the game’s RTP, so cascades change how returns are spread, not how much is returned overall. Our cascading reels glossary entry has a short definition.
What is the max win on Planet Moolah?
We haven’t found an official maximum win published by WMS or Light & Wonder, so we don’t quote one. Figures appear on third-party sites, but they can’t be checked against the version a UK casino runs, and older games often exist in several versions. If you want to know the cap, open the help screen and look in the game rules section. Read slot max win explained for why caps exist and how they’re applied.
Is Planet Moolah a high volatility slot?
No, Planet Moolah is usually rated medium volatility. Cascades produce a steady supply of small wins, and the bigger results tend to come from the free spins round. That makes it less swingy than most modern bonus-heavy releases, though it can still go through long dry spells. Budget for the session in advance and stick to it. Our guide on how to compare slot volatility shows how to judge volatility when a developer gives no rating.
Can you play Planet Moolah for free in the UK?
You can play a demo version at some UK sites, but only after verifying your age and identity, which has been required for free-to-play casino games since 2019. Demo spins use play credits, run on the same maths and are useful for seeing how cascades and the bonus work. They don’t predict real-money results. Our page on whether you have to pay to play slots explains your options.
Why do some Planet Moolah wins pay less than my stake?
Because the stake is spread across 25 paylines, many single-line wins return less than the total bet. On a 25p spin, a three-symbol line win for a low symbol might pay a few pence, leaving you down on that spin. UK rules stop games celebrating these with fanfares, because they are really losses. Watch your balance and net position instead of the win meter. Read more about losses disguised as wins.
Is there a Planet Moolah sequel?
Light & Wonder has released later games under the Moolah name, including Invaders Attack from the Planet Moolah, which builds on the same alien-and-cow theme. We haven’t reviewed those follow-ups or verified their figures, so check each game’s help screen for its RTP and rules before playing. Sequels often change volatility as well as visuals. Our guide to how slot sequels differ explains what usually changes between versions.
