The Sakura Fortune slot is an April 2017 Quickspin game on five reels and four rows with 40 paylines, built around a Japanese princess whose stacked wilds drive every feature. Its RTP is up to 96.58%, but a version at around 90% also exists, which makes checking the info screen more important here than on most slots.

Sakura Fortune slot: check the RTP before anything else
Most slot reviews leave RTP until late. For Sakura Fortune it belongs at the top, because Quickspin supplies the game in two very different RTP models: one up to 96.58% and one around 90%. Same graphics, same features, same paytable layout, but a very different long-run cost. The casino chooses which one to run, and the game’s info screen tells you which you have.

On the lower version, the same amount of play costs roughly three times as much in theory. Over a few dozen spins the difference is swamped by luck, but over regular sessions it adds up. Our guide on how to find a slot’s RTP shows where the figure sits in a typical help menu, and the RTP range entry explains why studios supply several versions.
The theme: a princess against the emperors
Quickspin frames the game as the story of a Japanese princess battling evil emperors on her way to riches. As the name suggests, cherry blossom sets the tone, giving it a calm, elegant look that contrasts with how volatile the maths can be. The princess is the wild and the star of all three features. It sits naturally among our Asian themed slots.
How to play Sakura Fortune
Log in at a UKGC-licensed casino; free demo play needs age verification first.
Open the rules and confirm which RTP model your casino runs.
Pick your total stake; all 40 lines are fixed and always active.
Spin manually; each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds under UK rules.
Watch for stacked Princess wilds, which drive the respins and Mystery Nudge.
Land three or more scatters in a row from the left to start the free spins.
With 40 lines on a 5×4 grid, almost every position sits on several lines, which is why full stacks of wilds are so valuable. Our guide to reading a slot paytable shows how to turn line payouts into pounds at your stake.
Sakura Fortune Respins explained
The main base-game feature starts when two full stacks of Princess wilds land. The number of respins you get equals the number of wilds on the reels when the feature starts. Any extra wilds that land during the respins add more respins, and the feature ends when no new wilds appear.
A simple example
Two full stacks on a four-row grid make eight wild positions, so the feature would start with eight respins under that rule. If a respin then adds two more wilds, you get two more respins. Each respin is part of the original paid spin, so it costs nothing extra. How much it pays depends on which symbols line up with the wild stacks across the 40 lines.
This is a variation on the respin idea, combined with stacked symbols. Quickspin doesn’t say on its game page whether the original wilds stay in place during the respins, so check the rules screen for that detail.
Mystery Nudge: turning partial stacks into full ones
When two or more Princess wilds land, there is a chance they nudge into a full stack. Quickspin doesn’t publish the probability. The effect is to turn a near-miss into a full wild reel, which can complete many lines at once and can also help set up the two full stacks needed for the respins.
A nudge is decided by the random number generator at the moment of the spin. It isn’t a reward for previous losses, and there is no way to make it more likely.
Sakura Fortune free spins with expanding wilds
Free spins start when three or more scatter symbols land on consecutive reels from left to right in a single spin. During the round, each Princess wild that lands expands to cover its whole reel and stays expanded for the rest of the feature. Every one of those wilds also adds an extra free spin.
That combination is what gives the round its upside. One expanded reel helps for the rest of the round; two or three can turn most spins into multi-line wins. On the other hand, a round where no wild lands early can finish with very little. Quickspin’s game page doesn’t state the starting number of free spins, so read the rules for your version. For the general principles, see expanding wilds and our expanding wild slots page.

How volatile is Sakura Fortune?
Quickspin describes Sakura Fortune as extremely volatile. That fits the design: the features depend on full wild stacks, which don’t land often, and much of the return is concentrated in respin sequences and free spins rounds with several expanded wilds. Long runs of small or no wins are normal between those moments.
At 96.58%, 200 spins at 50p (£100 staked) would cost £3.42 in theory, but the real spread of results is wide, and finishing well below that average is common on a high-variance game. On the 90% version, the same session would cost around £10 in theory, with the same volatility on top. Our volatility guide explains how to size stakes for games like this.
Max win and UK rules
Quickspin doesn’t state a maximum win on its game page and we haven’t verified one, so check the rules screen for the cap as a multiple of your stake. In the UK, stakes are limited to £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18–24s; autoplay, turbo and slam-stop are switched off; each spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds; and there is no bonus buy. Demo play needs age verification. Our UK slot rules guide has the detail.
Sakura Fortune 2 and similar slots
Quickspin followed the original with Sakura Fortune 2, a separate game with its own maths; check its info screen rather than assuming the figures carry over. Our guide to how slot sequels differ explains what usually changes between versions. If you like the 5×4, 40-line format, these games are worth comparing:

Sakura Fortune pros and cons
Advantages
Three features that all centre on one symbol, so the game is easy to follow.
Expanding wilds that stick for the whole free spins round.
A top RTP of up to 96.58% where casinos run that version.
Drawbacks
A version around 90% RTP exists, which is far more expensive to play.
Quickspin calls it extremely volatile, so dry spells can be long.
Max win and starting free spins aren’t published on the developer’s page.
It suits players who like elegant presentation and a focused feature set, and who are willing to check the RTP each time. Anyone wanting a gentler game should consider low volatility slots.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Sakura Fortune?
Sakura Fortune has an RTP of up to 96.58%, but Quickspin also supplies a version at around 90%, and the casino chooses which to run. On £100 staked, the theoretical cost is £3.42 on the higher version and about £10 on the lower one, so the difference is significant over repeated play. The game’s help or rules screen shows the live figure, and it is worth checking every time you play at a new site. Our RTP guide explains how versions and theoretical return work.
How do the Sakura Fortune respins work?
The Sakura Fortune Respins start when two full stacks of Princess wilds land. You get as many respins as there are wilds on the reels when the feature starts, and any new wilds that land during the respins add more. The feature ends when no new wilds appear. All the respins belong to the original paid spin, so they don’t cost anything extra. Payouts depend on how regular symbols line up with the wilds across the 40 paylines. See our respin glossary entry for the general mechanic.
How do you trigger free spins on Sakura Fortune?
Free spins are triggered by three or more scatter symbols landing on consecutive reels from left to right in a single spin, starting on reel 1. During the round, every Princess wild that lands expands to fill its reel for the rest of the feature and adds one more free spin. The starting number of spins is listed in the game rules for your casino’s version. Feature buys aren’t allowed in Great Britain, so scatters are the only route. Read our expanding wild entry for more on the mechanic.
Is Sakura Fortune high volatility?
Yes. Quickspin itself describes Sakura Fortune as extremely volatile. Its features rely on full stacks of Princess wilds, which don’t land often, so long spells of small or no wins are normal, and much of the return arrives in occasional strong respin sequences or free spins rounds. A session budget can run out before any feature appears. Smaller stakes give you more spins for the same money. Our high volatility slots page compares it with other games with similar risk profiles.
What is Mystery Nudge in Sakura Fortune?
Mystery Nudge is a base-game feature that can push Princess wilds into a full stack. When two or more Princess wilds land on a reel, there is a chance they nudge so the whole reel becomes wild. Quickspin doesn’t publish the probability. A full wild reel can complete many of the 40 lines at once and can also help trigger the Sakura Fortune Respins, which need two full stacks. The nudge is decided at random, like every other outcome. Our nudge glossary entry explains the term.
Is there a Sakura Fortune 2?
Yes, Quickspin released Sakura Fortune 2 as a follow-up to the 2017 original. It is a separate game with its own grid, features, RTP and volatility, so don’t assume the first game’s figures apply. Check its rules screen for the live RTP before playing, as you would with the original. Sequels often change the maths model even when the theme looks similar. Our guide to how slot sequels differ explains what typically changes, and the Quickspin page lists more of the studio’s games.
What is the maximum bet on Sakura Fortune in the UK?
The maximum bet on Sakura Fortune in the UK is £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. These Gambling Commission limits override any higher bet the game might allow elsewhere, and your casino enforces them automatically based on your verified age. Every spin must also take at least 2.5 seconds, with no autoplay or turbo. For the full set of rules, read our UK slot rules guide and the stake limit entry.
When was Sakura Fortune released?
Sakura Fortune was released by Quickspin in April 2017. By then the Stockholm studio had been part of Playtech for almost a year, following the acquisition in May 2016. The game became one of Quickspin’s best-known titles and is often listed alongside Big Bad Wolf as a signature release. It runs in a browser on phones, tablets and desktop. You can find more games from the same period on our Quickspin slots page and in the Asian themed slots collection.
