Floating Dragon slot: two bonus rounds in one game

Most slots build everything around a single feature. Floating Dragon gives you two, each with its own trigger and its own way of paying. The first is a Hold and Spin round, where money symbols lock in place and the respin counter resets each time a new one lands. The second is a free spins round that works much like the Big Bass Bonanza bonus: fish carry cash values and wilds collect them.

That pairing isn't a coincidence. Floating Dragon was made by Reel Kingdom, the studio behind the Big Bass series, and released through Pragmatic Play in 2021. It takes the fishing collect mechanic and sets it on an East Asian river, with dragon imagery in place of the lake and tackle box.

Layout, paylines and symbols

The game uses 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 fixed paylines, paying left to right. Higher-paying symbols follow the river and festival theme, card ranks fill the lower end, and a wild substitutes for paying symbols. Money symbols, each showing a printed value, feed the Hold and Spin round, while the scatter starts free spins. The paytable updates every value to your current stake, so the figures you see are already in pounds.

How to play Floating Dragon

  1. Open the rules and paytable and check the RTP; 96.71% is the default, but lower versions are available to casinos.
  2. Choose a total stake. All 10 lines are fixed, so the stake is the full cost of a spin.
  3. Stay within the UK limit of £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over, or £2 for those aged 18 to 24.
  4. Spin manually; there's no autoplay or turbo on UK slots, and each spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds.
  5. Look out for money symbols, which can start Hold and Spin, and scatters, which start free spins.

If any symbol or rule is unclear, our guide on how to read a slot paytable explains where to find each piece of information in a typical game menu.

Floating Dragon Hold and Spin explained

Pragmatic Play's game page ties the Hold and Spin trigger to money symbols landing on the middle of the grid, but its wording is brief, so read the paytable in the game for the exact condition. Once it starts, you get three respins in which only money symbols can land. Each new one locks in place, everything visible is counted, and the counter resets to three.

Standard money symbols show 1x to 20x your bet. During the feature, diamond symbols can also appear, and the developer lists their values from 100x into the thousands. Those diamonds are where the feature's big results come from, and they're much rarer than standard money symbols.

Worked example at 40p

Say the round locks five money symbols worth 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x and 10x, a total of 28x, which is £11.20 at a 40p stake. Two more of 4x and 6x land before the counter runs out, taking it to 38x, or £15.20. A single 100x diamond in the same round would have added £40 on its own.

Floating Dragon free spins and the wild collector

Three, four or five scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins. During the round, fish money symbols carry values of up to 500x the bet, and they pay only when a wild lands on the same spin to collect them. Two wilds on one spin collect the total twice.

Every wild you land is counted. The fourth adds 10 more spins, and the developer says the collect multiplier rises to 2x, then 3x, and finally 10x with later retriggers. The structure will feel familiar to anyone who's played the fishing slots in the Big Bass range.

Floating Dragon's two features are independent. A strong Hold and Spin doesn't make free spins more or less likely on the next spin, because every spin is decided by the RNG on its own.

Floating Dragon RTP and volatility in practice

The default RTP of 96.71% gives a house edge of 3.29%, among the better figures in Pragmatic Play's catalogue. High volatility means the base game pays small amounts and most of the return sits inside the two features.

SessionStakedAverage costWhat to expect
150 spins at 20p£30About 99pMay see one feature, may see none
150 spins at 40p£60About £1.97Results usually well away from the average
100 spins at £2£200About £6.58Large swings either way

Two features give you two routes to a decent result, which can make sessions feel a little less one-dimensional than a single-bonus game with similar volatility. It doesn't change the long-run cost.

Max win: how 5,000x can be reached

The max win is 5,000 times the stake: £500 at 10p, £2,000 at 40p, £10,000 at £2 and £25,000 at £5. In free spins it needs high-value fish collected at the 10x level; in Hold and Spin it needs several large diamonds on a nearly full grid. Neither happens often, and the developer doesn't publish the odds.

UK rules and demo access

UK players can't buy either feature, can't use autoplay, and always see their net position. A demo is available at licensed casinos once age verification is complete, explained in our free slots guide. The UK slot rules page lists every requirement.

Pros, cons and who Floating Dragon suits

Advantages

  • Two distinct features give variety

  • Diamond symbols add upside to the respin round

Drawbacks

  • High volatility and a quiet base game
  • Hold and Spin trigger isn't clearly described on the developer's page

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Floating Dragon?

Floating Dragon has a default RTP of 96.71%, a theoretical return of £96.71 for every £100 staked over a very long run of spins. Pragmatic Play also supplies lower versions, and the casino chooses which one to run, so open the game's information screen to see the live figure. 96.71% is among the higher returns in the developer's range. Our RTP guide explains what the figure means and doesn't mean for one session.

Who made Floating Dragon?

Floating Dragon was made by Reel Kingdom, the studio behind Big Bass Bonanza, and released through Pragmatic Play in 2021. Pragmatic Play distributes Reel Kingdom's games, which is why it appears under Pragmatic Play in most casino lobbies. The shared origin explains why its free spins work so much like the Big Bass bonus. Our Reel Kingdom page covers the studio's other games, and the Pragmatic Play page covers the distributor.

How does the Floating Dragon Hold and Spin work?

Money symbols in the base game start the feature, and you then get three respins in which only money symbols can land. Each new one locks in place and resets the counter to three. When no new symbol lands for three respins, you're paid the total of everything on the grid. Standard values are 1x to 20x the bet, and rarer diamonds carry far larger values. Check the paytable for the exact trigger. Our hold and win entry explains the mechanic.

How do you get free spins on Floating Dragon?

Land three, four or five scatter symbols on one spin to win 10, 15 or 20 free spins. In the round, fish money symbols carry values up to 500x, and a wild must land on the same spin to collect them. Every fourth wild adds 10 more spins and raises the collect multiplier to 2x, then 3x, then 10x. You can't buy the feature in Great Britain. Our free spins feature entry covers how scatter-triggered rounds work.

What is the max win on Floating Dragon?

The maximum win is 5,000 times your stake, which is £500 on a 10p spin, £5,000 on £1 and £25,000 at the £5 UK limit for players aged 25 and over. Reaching it needs either large fish collected at a high multiplier in free spins or several big diamonds in Hold and Spin. Both are rare, and Pragmatic Play doesn't publish how often the cap is reached. Our max win entry explains how these caps work.

Is Floating Dragon high volatility?

Yes, Floating Dragon is rated high volatility. The base game pays modest amounts infrequently, and most of the return comes through the Hold and Spin and free spins features, which may not appear for long stretches. Having two features can make sessions feel more varied, but it doesn't make losses less likely over time. Choose a stake that lets your budget last. Our volatility guide and slot budget guide explain how to plan a session.

Is Floating Dragon like Big Bass Bonanza?

Partly. Its free spins round uses the same idea as Big Bass Bonanza: fish symbols carry cash values, wilds collect them, and every fourth wild adds spins and a higher multiplier. Floating Dragon adds a second feature, Hold and Spin, and moves the theme from a lake to an East Asian river. Both have a 96.71% RTP and high volatility, but Floating Dragon's cap is 5,000x against 2,100x. Read our Big Bass Bonanza review to compare.

Can I play Floating Dragon for free in the UK?

Yes, as a demo at UK-licensed casinos, but only after you've created an account and verified your age, a requirement for free-to-play games since 2019. The demo uses play credit, so it's a useful way to see how both features trigger and pay without staking money. Short demo sessions can give a misleading impression of how often features land. Our free slots guide and demo mode entry explain more.

Can you buy the bonus on Floating Dragon in the UK?

No. Players in Great Britain can't buy features on any slot, so Floating Dragon's Hold and Spin and free spins can only be triggered by landing the right symbols. Buy options seen in videos from other countries don't apply to UK accounts. UK slots also have no autoplay, no turbo and a minimum spin time of 2.5 seconds. Our bonus buy slots page explains why the feature was removed.
