Cash collect slots are online slots in which symbols land showing cash values, and a separate collector symbol, such as Big Bass Bonanza’s fisherman, gathers them up and pays the total. This guide breaks the mechanic into its parts, compares the main variations and nine well-known games on verified figures, and works through real collections in pounds.
A cash collect feature needs two things on the same spin: value symbols and a collector.
Values are multiples of your stake, so a 10x fish is £1 at 10p and £5 at 50p.
Variations include fishermen in free spins, reel-edge collect symbols, respin characters and moving collectors.
Most cash collect slots are high volatility; screens full of values with no collector are part of the design.

What cash collect slots are
A cash collect slot splits a win into two jobs. Some symbols carry a printed value, usually a multiple of your total stake. Another symbol, the collector, has the job of gathering those values. When both land together, the collector pays the sum of every value in view. When the values land without a collector, they pay nothing. The idea is simple to follow on screen, which is why it has spread from fishing games to mining, frontier and heist themes. Our glossary entry on cash collect gives the short definition.
The best-known UK example is Big Bass Bonanza, where fish show cash values and the fisherman wild collects them during free spins. Blueprint Gaming’s Fishin’ Frenzy uses the same pairing, and the two are often confused for that reason.
The parts of a cash collect feature
Every cash collect game is built from the same few parts. Reading the help screen with these in mind makes any new game quick to understand.
Value symbols. Fish, coins, bags or gems showing an amount. Check whether values are shown as stake multiples or pound sums at your current bet.
The collector. A fisherman, a Collect symbol, a character or a moving piece. Note where it can land; many games restrict it to one reel or to the bonus.
The condition. Most games need value and collector on the same spin. Some keep values on screen across respins, so a collector can arrive later.
Modifiers. Multipliers on collections, upgrades that raise low values, and retriggers that extend the round. These are where the biggest results come from.
Five ways slots collect cash
Collector type
How it works
Examples
Fisherman wild in free spins
Each fisherman that lands collects every fish value in view; collecting several fishermen extends the round and upgrades values
Big Bass Bonanza, Big Bass Splash, Fishin’ Frenzy
Collect symbol on a fixed reel
A Collect symbol on an edge reel sweeps up every cash and jackpot symbol on the same base-game spin
Gold Blitz (reels 1 and 6), Mustang Gold (reel 5)
Characters in a respin bonus
Cash symbols lock in place; special characters collect, add to or multiply them before the round ends
Money Train 2
Moving collectors on a grid
Coloured pieces travel the board collecting matching gems, filling a meter that unlocks features
Pirots (ELK’s CollectR)
Revealed coins after cascades
Winning positions leave marked squares; a special symbol turns them into coins and multipliers
Le Bandit
The first two types settle on a single spin, so each collection is easy to check. The respin and grid types build over several steps, which makes them slower to read but able to stack values much higher. Push Gaming’s Fat Banker adds a sixth flavour with money-collect Bullion symbols carrying multipliers of up to 100x.
Big Bass Bonanza is the natural example, partly because it is also the game PlayOJO’s welcome spins are played on, at 10p a spin. Fish values are multiples of the stake, so at 10p a fish marked 10x is worth £1.
Free spins are running. Three fish land showing 3x, 5x and 15x: 23x in total.
One fisherman lands on the same spin and collects all three: 23 × 10p = £2.30.
On a later spin, the same three fish land with two fishermen. Each fisherman collects every fish, so the spin pays 2 × £2.30 = £4.60.
Pragmatic Play’s rules add a retrigger for every fourth fisherman collected, with more spins and a higher multiplier on later collections, so a long round becomes steadily more valuable.
The fish values here are invented to show the arithmetic. For scale: 80 spins at 10p is £8 of spins, and most rounds of that size pay a modest amount. The 2,100x cap would be £210 at 10p and needs a near-perfect round. The guide to working out free spins value covers the maths of welcome spins.
Cash collect vs hold and win
The two mechanics share cash-value symbols, so they are easy to mix up. In a hold and win round, value symbols lock in place and a respin counter resets each time a new one lands; you are paid the total when the counter runs out or the grid fills. In a classic cash collect game, values pay on the same spin, and only if a collector is present. Money Train 2 sits between the two: its bonus is a locking respin round, but characters inside it collect and multiply. Our page on hold and win slots covers the locking side.
Why a screen full of cash often pays nothing
The most familiar moment in these games is a reel set covered in fish or coins with no collector. It feels like a near miss, but it is simply how the maths is built. Value symbols are made common so the screen looks lively; collectors are rarer, because each collection pays everything in view. If collectors were as common as values, the game would pay far too much.
Each spin is settled independently, so a run of uncollected screens doesn’t make a collector more likely on the next spin. UK rules also stop games from celebrating any return smaller than your stake, which helps keep these moments in proportion. Our guide to near misses in slots explains why they feel significant.
Volatility and session cost on cash collect slots
Seven of the nine games are medium–high or high volatility, because most of their value sits in collections during bonuses. Fishin’ Frenzy and Le Bandit are the medium options. In pounds: 100 spins at 50p is £50 staked. At Big Bass Bonanza’s 96.71%, the theoretical cost is £1.65; at Pirots’ 94%, it is £3. Real sessions spread far wider than those averages, and without a bonus, losing most of the £50 is a normal outcome on a high-volatility game. Our volatility guide explains the difference.
Studios behind cash collect slots
The Big Bass series comes from Reel Kingdom, distributed by Pragmatic Play, starting with Big Bass Bonanza on 14 December 2020. Blueprint Gaming, based in Newark, built the Fishin’ Frenzy family. Relax Gaming made the Money Train series, ELK Studios the Pirots games, and Hacksaw, Push Gaming and Games Global each have their own versions of the idea.
UK rules on cash collect slots
Many cash collect games offer a feature buy elsewhere, but bonus buys are not offered in Great Britain, so free spins and respin rounds only arrive through normal play. Stakes are capped at £5 a spin from age 25 and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, which also caps every collection, because values are multiples of the stake. Spins last at least 2.5 seconds, and autoplay and turbo are switched off.
How to read a cash collect slot before playing
Find out where the collector can land: which reels, and whether only in the bonus.
Check whether values must be collected on the same spin or stay on screen across respins.
Read the value range and convert the top values to pounds at your stake.
Look for collection multipliers, upgrades and retrigger rules, which drive the biggest rounds.
Confirm the RTP in the help screen at your casino.
Set a budget that covers a few hundred spins, since collections in the bonus can be far apart.

Frequently asked questions
What is a cash collect slot?
A cash collect slot is a game where some symbols show cash values and a separate collector symbol gathers them and pays the total. The values pay nothing unless a collector lands, usually on the same spin. Big Bass Bonanza is the best-known example: fish show values and the fisherman collects them in free spins. Values are multiples of your stake, so they scale with your bet. Our slot features guide explains how this fits alongside wilds and multipliers.
What are the best cash collect slots?
The best-known cash collect slots are Big Bass Bonanza, Big Bass Splash, Fishin’ Frenzy and Money Train 2. Big Bass Bonanza has a 96.71% RTP and high volatility; Fishin’ Frenzy is the medium-volatility option at 96.12%. Money Train 2 has the highest cap in our table at 50,000x but is far swingier. Pirots and Le Bandit offer newer takes on the idea. Choose by volatility first. Our fishing slots page compares the fisherman games in more detail.
Is Big Bass Bonanza a cash collect slot?
Yes, Big Bass Bonanza is the most famous cash collect slot in the UK. Fish symbols carry cash values, and during free spins the fisherman wild collects every fish value in view. Collecting more fishermen retriggers the round and raises the multiplier on later collections. It has 10 paylines, a 96.71% RTP, high volatility and a 2,100x cap. Our comparison of Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash shows how the sequel changes the formula.
What is the difference between cash collect and hold and win?
Cash collect pays values when a collector lands with them, usually on the same spin; hold and win locks values in place over a series of respins and pays the total at the end. In hold and win, each new value symbol resets the respin counter. Some games combine both, such as Money Train 2, where characters collect and multiply locked values during the respin bonus. Our guide to how hold and win works covers the locking mechanic.
Do cash values scale with my stake?
Yes, cash values on almost every collect slot are multiples of your total stake, so they rise and fall with your bet. A 10x fish is worth £1 at 10p, £5 at 50p and £50 at the £5 maximum for players aged 25 and over. Because the cost per spin scales in exactly the same way, a higher stake doesn’t improve the return percentage. Check whether the game shows values as multipliers or pounds. For help choosing, see what stake to play.
Why do I see fish but no fisherman?
On Big Bass Bonanza and similar games, fish with cash values can land in the base game, but the fisherman collector appears in free spins. Their values aren’t collected outside the bonus, so the paytable is the place to check what base-game fish are worth. Even in the bonus, values often land without a collector, because collectors are rarer by design. Each spin is independent, so a run of uncollected fish doesn’t make the next collector more likely. Our answer on whether slots get hot or cold explains why.
Which cash collect slot has the biggest max win?
Money Train 2 has the highest verified cap among the cash collect slots we compare, at 50,000x your stake. Fat Banker follows at 25,000x and Big Bass Bonanza 1000 at 20,000x. At 20p, 50,000x would be £10,000. These ceilings need rare, near-perfect bonus rounds, and most bonuses pay a small multiple of the stake. Treat the cap as a measure of volatility, not a target. The high max win slots list puts these figures in context.
How does Pirots collect cash?
Pirots uses ELK Studios’ CollectR system instead of paylines. Coloured birds move around a grid collecting gems of their own colour, and each gem pays its value when collected. Collected gems also fill a meter that unlocks features, including upgrades and grid expansions up to 8x8. The published RTP is 94%, lower than most games here, with medium–high volatility and a 10,000x cap. Our ELK Studios page covers the studio’s other mechanics.
Can I use free spins on a cash collect slot?
Yes, some welcome spins are played on cash collect games. PlayOJO’s offer for new UK customers (18+, excluding Northern Ireland) gives 80 spins at 10p on Big Bass Bonanza with a first deposit of £10 or more, and winnings are paid as cash with no wagering. Coral and Ladbrokes spins are on selected games, which may or may not include a collect slot. Terms apply to all. Our guide to how to claim free spins walks through the process.
Are cash collect slots high volatility?
Most cash collect slots are high volatility, because their biggest wins come from collections during bonus rounds. Big Bass Bonanza, Money Train 2 and Gold Blitz are all high, and Pirots is medium–high. Fishin’ Frenzy and Le Bandit are medium, which suits longer sessions on smaller budgets. High volatility means long quiet spells, so set your stake to give enough spins. Our low volatility slots page lists steadier alternatives.
