Playtech slots are best known in the UK for the Age of the Gods progressive jackpot series, older favourites such as Great Blue and Buffalo Blitz, and a habit of folding jackpot money into the published RTP. This page explains who Playtech is, how its jackpots and maths work, and how to read its games before you spin.
Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, is headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man, and is listed in London.
Its signature for slot players is the Age of the Gods series and its four-tier progressive jackpot.
Jackpot slots such as Age of the Gods (95.02%) and Jackpot Giant (94.22%) include the jackpot in their RTP, so the base game returns less.
Many Playtech games exist in more than one RTP version: always check the help screen at your casino.

Who makes Playtech slots?
Playtech is one of the oldest software companies in online gambling. It was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi, and its head office is now in Douglas on the Isle of Man. The company floated on London’s AIM market in 2006 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC.
For a slot player, the important thing is that Playtech is not only a game studio. It also builds casino platforms and live dealer products, which is why its slots often sit inside bigger systems: shared jackpots, branded series and network promotions. That background shapes how its games are built, and it explains why a Playtech jackpot slot can feel different from a modern high-volatility release from a small studio such as Hacksaw Gaming.
In 2016 Playtech bought the Swedish studio Quickspin, which still releases games under its own name. If you like Quickspin titles such as Big Bad Wolf, you are playing a game from inside the Playtech group, even though the logo on the loading screen is different.

How the Playtech Age of the Gods jackpot works
Age of the Gods is a 5-reel, 3-row game with 20 fixed paylines, released in 2016. Its top prize is the Ultimate Power progressive jackpot, which sits at the head of a four-tier ladder: Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. The same jackpot pool is linked across many games in the series and across many casinos, which is why the top tier can grow far larger than any single slot could pay from its own maths.
The jackpot is decided separately from the reels. A jackpot game can start at random after a spin, and it then works out which tier you win. Nothing you see on the reels tells you one is close, and the chance of triggering it is set by the game’s rules, not by how long it has been since the last winner. The help screen explains whether your stake changes your chance of getting into the jackpot game, so read it before choosing a bet size.
Why jackpot money lowers the base-game return
Age of the Gods has a published RTP of 95.02%, and that figure includes the contribution to the jackpot. Picture a small slice of every stake going into the shared pot. On £100 of spins, the theory says £95.02 comes back over a very long run, but part of that £95.02 is the expected value of jackpots that almost nobody wins. For the vast majority of players, the return from line wins and free spins is lower than the headline number. Our RTP guide explains the maths in more detail.
Best-known Playtech slots compared
Playtech has released a very large catalogue, but a handful of titles keep appearing in UK lobbies. The figures below are the published ones we hold for each game; where a field is blank, we haven’t verified it.
Playtech, like most large suppliers, offers casinos more than one maths version of the same game. Buffalo Blitz is a clear example: there is a 95.96% version and a 94.01% version. The reels, symbols and features look identical; only the long-run return differs. The casino chooses which one it runs, and the in-game help screen shows the live figure. Our guide to RTP versions explains why this happens.
Here is what that gap means in pounds. At 50p a spin, 500 spins puts £250 through the game. At 95.96%, the theoretical cost of that play is about £10.10. At 94.01%, it is about £14.98. That is close to £5 extra cost for the same entertainment, before volatility does anything at all. Over a single session luck will swamp this difference, but over months of play the cheaper version matters.
On volatility, Playtech’s catalogue splits into two camps. The jackpot titles tend to sit around medium because a lot of their value is parked in the shared pot. Older standalone games such as Great Blue and Buffalo Blitz are high volatility, with long quiet patches between features. See our volatility guide for what that means for a budget.
Jackpot or standalone: choosing a Playtech game
Choose a jackpot game if the chance of a large linked prize matters more to you than the base-game return, and you accept that the headline RTP includes jackpot money.
Choose a standalone game if you want all of the RTP working in the reels and features, and you prefer to know the maximum the game itself can pay.
Check the stake rule on jackpot games: some give a bigger chance of the jackpot game at higher stakes, which can tempt you to bet more than you planned.
Compare versions if you play at more than one site: the same title can return a different percentage at each one.
How to find Playtech slots in a UK casino lobby
Most UK slot sites let you filter by provider, but Playtech games are sometimes grouped under a jackpot or branded tab instead. These steps work at most licensed sites:
Open the casino lobby and look for a provider or studio filter, usually in a drop-down or a ‘More’ menu.
Pick Playtech; if it isn’t listed, type a title such as Age of the Gods into the search box.
Check the jackpot tab as well, because linked jackpot games are often shown there rather than in the main slots list.
Open the game and tap the ‘i’ or menu icon to read the help screen, including the RTP shown for that casino.
Note whether the RTP mentions a jackpot contribution, and set your stake within your budget before your first spin.
If you want to try a game first, demo mode is available at UK sites only after age verification, as our page on free slots explains.
UK rules that apply to every Playtech slot
Playtech games in Great Britain follow the same rules as every other online slot. There is no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, and each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds. Stakes are capped at £5 a spin if you are 25 or over and £2 a spin if you are 18 to 24. Bonus buy features are not offered to British players. The game must show your balance and net position at all times. Our UK slot rules guide covers each change in turn.
For jackpot games the stake cap matters more than it looks. Older versions sometimes paid the biggest jackpot share at much higher stakes than the current limits allow, so read the jackpot rules on the UK version rather than relying on what you remember.
Playtech slots: strengths and drawbacks

Some high published RTPs, such as 97.06% on the top Halloween Fortune version
A large, mature catalogue, plus Quickspin titles inside the same group
Drawbacks
Jackpot titles count jackpot money in their RTP, so the base game returns less
Several games run in more than one RTP version, so the figure varies by casino
Older games can look dated beside newer releases
Max win is not a fixed figure on progressive games

Frequently asked questions
What are the best-known Playtech slots in the UK?
Age of the Gods is the best-known Playtech slot series in the UK, thanks to its four-tier linked jackpot. Other familiar titles include Great Blue, a 25-line ocean game from 2013; Buffalo Blitz, a 6×4 slot with 4,096 ways; Gladiator, which carries a progressive prize; Halloween Fortune; and Jackpot Giant. Each is reviewed on its own page, and you can compare them with other studios’ games on our jackpot slots page. Popularity varies by casino, so the titles shown first in any lobby depend on that operator’s choices.
Is Playtech a UK company?
Playtech is not based in mainland Britain; its headquarters are in Douglas on the Isle of Man. The company was founded in Tartu, Estonia, in 1999 and is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC. Any supplier providing games to British players has to work within the UK Gambling Commission’s rules, and the casino you play at must hold a UKGC licence. You can check any operator on the public register, as our guide to checking a slot site’s licence shows step by step.
What RTP do Playtech slots have?
Playtech slot RTPs vary by game and by version, typically from about 94% to just over 97% for the titles we hold figures for. Jackpot Giant is listed at 94.22%, Age of the Gods at 95.02% including its jackpot contribution, Great Blue at 96.03% and the top Halloween Fortune version at 97.06%. Casinos may run lower versions, so the help screen inside the game is the only reliable source for the figure you actually get. Our how to find a slot’s RTP guide shows where to look.
How do you win the Age of the Gods jackpot?
You win an Age of the Gods jackpot by triggering the separate jackpot game, which starts at random after a spin and then decides which of the four tiers you collect. The tiers are Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power, and the top one is shared across many games and casinos. There is no pattern or timing that makes a trigger more likely, because each spin is independent. Read the game’s help screen for the stake rules, and see our explainer on how progressive jackpots work.
Why is the Age of the Gods RTP lower than other slots?
The Age of the Gods RTP of 95.02% looks lower because it includes the money that funds the linked jackpot. A slice of each stake goes into the shared pool, and the expected value of that pool is counted in the RTP even though very few players ever win the top tier. In practice the line wins and free spins most people see return a little less than the headline figure. That trade-off is normal for progressive jackpot slots, and it is worth weighing against a standalone game’s higher base return.
Does Playtech own Quickspin?
Yes, Playtech has owned the Swedish studio Quickspin since 2016. Quickspin keeps its own brand, style and release schedule, so its games appear under the Quickspin name in casino lobbies rather than under Playtech. That means two studios with quite different design habits sit inside the same group: Playtech with its jackpot networks and long-running series, and Quickspin with its feature-led video slots. You can read more about the studio and its best-known games on our Quickspin slots page.
Can I play Playtech slots for free in the UK?
You can play Playtech slots in demo mode at many UK casinos, but only after the site has verified your age, a rule in place since May 2019. Demo games use play credits, so nothing is won or lost, and they are useful for learning how a feature triggers before you stake real money. Some jackpot games may not offer a demo, or may show the jackpot without letting you win it. Our guide to testing a slot in demo mode explains what to look for.
What is the maximum stake on Playtech slots in the UK?
The maximum stake on any Playtech slot in Great Britain is £5 per spin if you are 25 or over, and £2 per spin if you are 18 to 24. These limits came in during April and May 2025 and apply to every online slot, whatever its age or jackpot. A game may also set its own lower maximum. On jackpot titles, check whether the stake affects your chance of the jackpot game. Our page on UK slot stake limits explains how operators apply the age bands.
Are Playtech slots fair?
Playtech slots offered to British players must use a tested random number generator and meet the UK Gambling Commission’s technical standards, so results are random and the published RTP must be accurate. Fair does not mean you will win: the house edge means losses are likely over time. The useful checks are the RTP shown in the help screen and whether the casino holds a current UKGC licence. Our guide to how UK slots are tested explains who checks the maths and how.
