Bet365 slots are licensed in Great Britain to Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, UKGC account 55149, a different company from the one that holds bet365’s sports betting licence. The group was founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 2000 and is still privately owned by the Coates family. This page explains how the licences are split, what that means for a slot player, and how to check them.

Who licenses Bet365 slots
Search the Gambling Commission’s register for bet365.com and you land on Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, account 55149. Its only licensed activity is remote casino, under licence number 055149-R-331499-004, active from 17 October 2019. The register lists one domain, bet365.com, and gives a head office address in Ta’ Xbiex, Malta.
That company covers the casino games on the site, which is where slots belong. The sportsbook sits with a sister entity, Hillside (UK Sports) ENC, account 55148. A third Hillside company, Hillside (Technology) Limited, appears on the register under account 38721.
Why bet365 splits sport and casino licences
Large groups often hold different products in different legal entities. It keeps regulatory reporting, tax and compliance tidy, and it means each licence covers a defined activity. For you as a player the brand and website look the same; the split shows up only in the small print and on the register.

Bet365’s history: from Stoke-on-Trent to a global brand
Bet365 was founded in 2000 in Stoke-on-Trent, where its headquarters remain. It is privately owned by the Coates family, with Denise Coates holding 50.1%, and the group employs more than 10,000 people. That makes it unusual among the biggest British gambling brands, most of which belong to stock-market-listed groups such as Flutter or Entain.
The business started as a sports bookmaker, and sport is still what the brand is best known for. Its product list today covers sports betting, casino, live casino, poker and bingo. Slots are part of the casino side rather than the core of the business, which is worth knowing if you are comparing it with a slots-first site.
The 2026 ban on sport-to-casino offers
For sports-led brands, one change matters more than most. Since 19 January 2026, British operators can’t run promotions that mix gambling products, such as “place a £10 football bet and get casino spins”. Casino offers now have to stand on their own, and any wagering is capped at 10x.
In practice this means a slot offer on any multi-product site should only ask you to do something on slots. If you see a promotion that still links a sports bet to casino rewards, it is worth checking the date and the terms. Our UK slot rule changes for 2026 page covers the full list.
Checking a slot in the bet365 casino
We haven’t verified bet365’s current slot range, studio list or game count, so we won’t describe them. What we can do is tell you what to check on any game you open there:
RTP version: the help screen shows the live figure. Many games come in several RTP versions.
Volatility: some studios rate it on the info screen; others don’t. Our guide to comparing slot volatility covers both cases.
Max win: the cap on any single game round, usually expressed as a multiple of your stake.
Jackpot type: whether a jackpot is fixed, a network progressive or a must-drop jackpot.
Stake limits in pounds per hour
The British stake limits and the 2.5-second minimum spin time combine into a hard ceiling on how much you can put through a slot in an hour. At most 1,440 spins fit into an hour. The table shows what that means at the two age-band limits, and the expected cost at a 96% return.

Nobody needs to play at that pace, and real sessions are slower because of feature animations and pauses. The point is that stake size, not the casino brand, drives what a session is likely to cost. Our how many spins per hour page goes into more detail.
Bet365’s casino licence record
The register lists one regulatory action against Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC. Dated 4 April 2024, it was a settlement after a licence review, with a payment of £343,035 in lieu of a financial penalty, plus Commission costs and a public statement. The breaches related to anti-money laundering processes between May 2021 and July 2022 and to customer interaction between October 2021 and September 2022.
We record this as published fact. Reading the actions tab is a normal part of choosing a slot site, and it helps to read the public statement for context.
Safer gambling tools for bet365 casino players
As a licensee, Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion, and take part in GAMSTOP. Since 31 October 2025, operators must also ask new customers to set a deposit limit during registration. Because bet365 offers sport as well as casino, check whether a limit you set applies across the whole account or to one product; the help pages will say.
Find the company names in the bet365 terms or footer; for casino games it should be Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC.
Search that name, or account 55149, on the Gambling Commission public register.
Confirm Casino (Remote) shows as Active.
Open the domain names tab and check bet365.com is listed as Active.
Read the regulatory actions tab and the linked public statement.
Checking the right entity matters. If you search for the sports licensee you will see a different account and licence list. Our guide on checking a slot site’s licence explains multi-company groups.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns bet365?
Bet365 is privately owned by the Coates family, who founded it in Stoke-on-Trent in 2000; Denise Coates holds 50.1%. Unlike many large gambling brands, it isn’t listed on a stock exchange. In Great Britain its casino games are licensed to Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, UKGC account 55149, and its sportsbook to Hillside (UK Sports) ENC, account 55148. The group employs more than 10,000 people. You can trace the licensed companies yourself using our guide to checking a slot site’s licence.
Is bet365 casino licensed in the UK?
Yes. The casino side of bet365 is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission through Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, whose remote casino licence has been active since 17 October 2019. The register lists bet365.com as that company’s domain. Holding the licence means the site must follow British rules on verification, stake limits, game design and safer gambling. If you want to understand what the regulator does, our UKGC glossary entry gives a short explanation of its role and powers.
Why does bet365 have two licence holders?
Bet365 holds its casino and sports products in separate companies: Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC for casino games and Hillside (UK Sports) ENC for betting. Many large operators split products this way to keep compliance, reporting and tax arrangements distinct. You see one brand and one website, but slot complaints, for example, are the responsibility of the casino licensee. When checking the register, make sure you look at the right company. Our guide to complaining to a slot site explains why the licensee’s name matters.
Can I get casino spins for placing a sports bet at bet365?
Not under the current rules. Since 19 January 2026, British operators have been banned from running promotions that mix gambling products, such as offering casino spins for a sports bet. A casino promotion now has to be earned through casino play, and any wagering requirement can’t exceed 10x. This applies to every licensed site, not just bet365. If you come across an old article describing a sport-to-casino offer, it reflects rules that no longer apply. See our UK slot rule changes for 2026 for the details.
Has bet365 been fined by the Gambling Commission?
The register lists one regulatory action against bet365’s casino licensee, Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC: a settlement dated 4 April 2024, with a payment of £343,035 in lieu of a financial penalty, Commission costs and a public statement. It related to anti-money laundering processes and customer interaction over periods in 2021 and 2022. The sports licensee has its own register entry. We report this neutrally; reading the actions tab is a normal step when choosing a slot site.
What is the maximum stake on bet365 slots?
The maximum is £5 per spin for players aged 25 or over and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24, because those limits apply to every online slot in Great Britain. With the 2.5-second minimum spin time, that caps theoretical turnover at £7,200 an hour for over-25s and £2,880 for younger adults, though real play is much slower. Individual games or active bonuses may set lower limits. Our explainer on how much you can bet on slots in the UK covers how the age bands are applied.
Where is bet365 based?
Bet365’s headquarters are in Stoke-on-Trent, England, where the company was founded in 2000. However, the register lists the casino licensee, Hillside (UK Gaming) ENC, with a head office address in Ta’ Xbiex, Malta. Groups often place licensed entities in different jurisdictions while keeping a main base elsewhere. Wherever the entity sits, it must hold a Gambling Commission licence to serve British customers and follow the same rules. Our page on spotting unlicensed slot sites explains why that licence is the key check.
Can I play bet365 slots in Northern Ireland?
Gambling Commission licences cover Great Britain, which is England, Scotland and Wales; Northern Ireland has its own gambling law. Whether a particular operator accepts Northern Ireland customers, and on what terms, is set out in its own terms and conditions, so check bet365’s directly. Some promotions from other operators, such as PlayOJO’s welcome spins, explicitly exclude Northern Ireland. Our explainer on playing slots in Northern Ireland sets out the legal position and what to look for in the terms.
