1000 edition slots are remakes of hit games, mostly from Pragmatic Play, that keep the original grid and features but raise the top multiplier value to around 1,000x and lift the maximum win. The RTP barely moves, so the extra top-end potential is paid for by shifting return away from everyday wins, which makes most 1000 versions swingier than the games they are based on.
“1000” refers to the top multiplier value, not the maximum win: Gates of Olympus 1000 caps at 15,000x.
RTPs stay close to the originals, so a higher ceiling means more of the return sits in rare spins.
Max win rises in every case, but by very different amounts: Big Bass Bonanza goes from 2,100x to 20,000x.
The grid, symbols and trigger rules are usually unchanged, so the games look almost identical.
Lobbies list both versions with similar names, so check the title screen before you spin.

What “1000” means on a slot
The number in the name points to the highest multiplier the game can produce on a single symbol or spot, not the maximum you can win. In Gates of Olympus 1000, Zeus’s orbs can reach 1,000x, against 500x in the original. In Sweet Bonanza 1000, the free spins bombs reach 1,000x, against 100x before. The maximum win is a separate figure, set by the developer as a hard cap on any single spin or bonus.
Pragmatic Play has made the 1000 label a series, applying it to its best-known multiplier slots and to Reel Kingdom’s Big Bass games that it distributes. Other studios have used similar naming, such as Play’n GO’s Moon Princess 100, but the 1000 family is the one most UK players meet.

Two things stand out. First, the jump in maximum win varies wildly: Sweet Bonanza already had a 21,100x cap, so its 1000 version only adds about a fifth, while Big Bass Bonanza’s cap rises almost tenfold. Second, only one RTP moves noticeably, and it goes down: Big Bass Bonanza 1000 lists 96.51% against the original’s 96.71%.
What changes in a 1000 edition, and what stays
The appeal of these remakes is familiarity. If you know the original, you already know how to play the 1000 version.

Why a bigger ceiling does not mean bigger average wins
A slot’s RTP is a fixed budget. If Gates of Olympus 1000 returns 96.50%, exactly as the original does, and it now has a chance of 1,000x orbs that the original never had, that extra return has to come from somewhere. In practice, developers reduce the frequency or size of mid-range outcomes so that the average stays the same. The game hands out its return less evenly.
The effect shows up as volatility. Sugar Rush is listed as high volatility; Sugar Rush 1000 as very high. Sweet Bonanza 1000 and Starlight Princess 1000 sit at the top of Pragmatic Play’s own five-point scale. The full mechanics of RTP budgets are explained in how slot maths models work.
A session in pounds
Take £40 at 20p a spin: 200 spins. On either version of a 96.5% game the long-run expected cost is £1.40. What differs is the spread. On the original, more 200-spin sessions finish reasonably close to that average. On the 1000 edition, more finish well below it because mid-sized bonus wins are rarer, and a small number finish much higher because the top multipliers are possible. The average is identical; the experience is not.
The main 1000 editions, one by one
Gates of Olympus 1000
Same 6 × 5 pay-anywhere grid, same tumble and same orb mechanic, with orbs now reaching 1,000x and a 15,000x cap. Our Gates of Olympus vs Gates of Olympus 1000 comparison sets them side by side.
Sweet Bonanza 1000
Keeps the candy theme and scatter pays; free spins bombs go up to 1,000x. Released in 2024, with lower RTP versions of 95.52% and 94.51% also in circulation.
Sugar Rush 1000
The cluster grid with doubling multiplier spots, now able to climb far beyond the original’s 128x. Released in 2024 with a 25,000x cap. See the Sugar Rush 1000 review.
Starlight Princess 1000
The anime-styled sister to Gates of Olympus, using the same orb-and-tumble idea with a 15,000x cap. Released in 2023.
Big Bass Bonanza 1000 and Big Bass Vegas 1000
Reel Kingdom’s fisherman-collects-fish formula with higher possible fish values. Big Bass Bonanza 1000 caps at 20,000x. Big Bass Vegas 1000 is unusual in the series for a medium volatility rating, with a 96.53% RTP and a 15,000x cap.
2500, 100 and other upgraded editions
The idea has spread beyond the 1000 label. Gates of Olympus 2500 pushes the same game further, to a 25,000x cap with a 96.52% RTP. Play’n GO’s Moon Princess 100 remakes Moon Princess with a 15,000x cap, against the original’s 5,000x, and a top RTP of 96.2%, slightly below the original’s 96.50%.
Upgraded editions differ from true sequels, which usually add new features or change the grid. Our guide to how slot sequels and 1000 editions differ explains the distinction.

How to make sure you are playing the version you want
Lobbies often show both versions with near-identical artwork, and searching for a game’s name can bring up both. A quick check avoids surprises.
Search the lobby for the game name and look for “1000” on the tile.
Open the game and check the title on the loading screen.
Open the help screen and confirm the maximum win: 5,000x and 15,000x tell Gates of Olympus apart, for example.
Note the RTP shown, as either version may run below the developer’s default.
Set your stake with the volatility in mind before the first spin.
UK rules that apply to 1000 edition slots
Outside Great Britain, these games often promote a bonus buy. That option is not available to UK players, so free spins can only be triggered in normal play. The £5 per spin limit for players aged 25 and over, and £2 for 18 to 24, also caps the cash value of a maximum win: 25,000x on a £2 spin is £50,000. Spins take at least 2.5 seconds, with no turbo or autoplay. Full details are in our UK slot stake limits guide.

Frequently asked questions
What does 1000 mean in a slot name?
In a slot name, 1000 refers to the highest multiplier the game can award, usually around 1,000x on a single orb, bomb or grid spot. It is not the maximum win. Gates of Olympus 1000, for example, has 1,000x orbs but a 15,000x maximum win. The label marks a remake of an existing hit, with the same grid and features but a higher multiplier ceiling and a larger cap. Our guide to how slot sequels and 1000 editions differ explains the distinction.
Do 1000 edition slots pay more?
Not on average. The RTPs of 1000 editions sit very close to the originals; Gates of Olympus and its 1000 version both list 96.50%, and Big Bass Bonanza 1000 is slightly lower at 96.51% against 96.71%. The difference lies in where that return lands. More of it goes to rare, large wins, and less to mid-sized ones, so sessions swing harder. Over time you should expect to lose around the house edge whichever you choose. Our RTP guide explains why.
Is Gates of Olympus 1000 better than the original?
Neither is better; they suit different players. Gates of Olympus 1000 has the same 96.50% RTP and 6 × 5 grid, but orbs reach 1,000x rather than 500x and the cap rises from 5,000x to 15,000x. That makes it more volatile. If you prefer more even sessions, the original is the steadier choice. If you want the possibility of bigger bonus rounds and accept more dry spells, the 1000 edition fits. Our Gates of Olympus vs 1000 comparison goes deeper.
Which 1000 slot has the highest max win?
Among the 1000 editions we cover, Sweet Bonanza 1000 and Sugar Rush 1000 share the highest maximum win at 25,000x the stake. Big Bass Bonanza 1000 caps at 20,000x, and Gates of Olympus 1000, Starlight Princess 1000 and Big Bass Vegas 1000 each cap at 15,000x. Gates of Olympus 2500, a further upgrade, also reaches 25,000x. Hitting any of these caps is extremely rare. Our high max win slots page covers games with even larger caps.
Are 1000 edition slots more volatile?
Generally yes. Because the RTP stays about the same while the top multipliers rise, return is moved away from mid-range outcomes towards rare big ones. Sugar Rush 1000 is listed as very high volatility against high for the original, and Sweet Bonanza 1000 and Starlight Princess 1000 sit at five out of five on Pragmatic Play’s scale. Big Bass Vegas 1000 is an exception, rated medium. Budget for longer gaps between good bonuses. Our high volatility slots page explains what that means.
Can I buy the bonus on 1000 edition slots in the UK?
No. The feature buy option that appears in versions of these games elsewhere is not offered to players in Great Britain. UK players can only reach the free spins round by landing the required scatters during normal play. Some Pragmatic Play games offer an optional ante bet that raises the stake to improve the bonus chance, and the total still counts towards the £5 or £2 per spin limit. Our bonus buy slots page explains why the feature was removed.
Which studio makes 1000 edition slots?
Pragmatic Play makes most of them, including Gates of Olympus 1000, Sweet Bonanza 1000, Sugar Rush 1000 and Starlight Princess 1000. The Big Bass 1000 games come from Reel Kingdom, the studio behind the Big Bass series, and are distributed by Pragmatic Play. Other developers have tried similar upgraded editions with different numbers, such as Play’n GO’s Moon Princess 100. Our Pragmatic Play page profiles the studio and its best-known games.
Should beginners play the original or the 1000 version?
Most beginners will find the original easier to enjoy. It has the same features and grid, but its return is spread more evenly, so a modest budget is more likely to see a bonus round with a reasonable result. The 1000 edition tends to produce more sessions with little return, which can be discouraging when you are still learning. Whichever you choose, try the demo first after age verification and set a budget. Our best slots for beginners guide suggests other starting points.
