888casino slots: operator and licence

888casino slots are run for British players by 888 UK Limited, which holds Gambling Commission account 39028 from a head office in Gibraltar. The company belongs to evoke plc, the London-listed group formerly called 888 Holdings. Here we set out the licence, the group’s history since 1997, its sister brands, and how to read its entry on the public register.

Key takeaways

  • 888casino’s British licensee is 888 UK Limited, UKGC account 39028, with remote casino, bingo and betting licences active since 1 November 2014.
  • The parent, evoke plc, was founded in May 1997 as Virtual Holdings and has been listed in London since 2005.
  • One licence covers dozens of web addresses, including 888casino.com, 888.co.uk, 888sport.com and 888poker.co.uk.
  • The register lists three regulatory actions for the licensee between 2024 and 2025.

Who operates 888casino slots in Britain

The licence holder is 888 UK Limited, registered at Europort in Gibraltar. On the Commission’s register the company has one remote licence number, 039028-R-319297-014, under which four activities are active: casino, bingo and real-event betting from 1 November 2014, and virtual-event betting from 16 April 2020. Slots fall under the remote casino activity.

Above the licensee sits evoke plc, the new name adopted by 888 Holdings. The rename reflects a group that now owns more than the 888 brands, but the 888casino name itself continues. If a site footer still says 888 Holdings, that is the old group name rather than a different company.

From Virtual Holdings to evoke: an 888casino timeline

The group is one of the older names in online gambling. The key dates we could confirm are below; we have left out anything we couldn’t source.

DateEvent
May 1997Group founded as Virtual Holdings
2005Shares listed on the London Stock Exchange
1 November 2014888 UK Limited’s remote casino, bingo and betting licences take effect under the new UK licensing regime
16 April 2020Virtual-event betting added to the licence
TodayGroup trades as evoke plc, formerly 888 Holdings

The 1 November 2014 date is shared by many operators on the register. It marks the day the Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Act 2014 took effect, requiring every company selling remote gambling to British customers to hold a Commission licence, wherever it was based.

One licence, dozens of web addresses

888 UK Limited’s domain list on the register is unusually long, at around 90 entries. Most are variants of the same few brands. The active ones that contain 888 include:

  • Casino: 888casino.com, 888vipcasinoclub.com, magic888casino.com
  • Main and regional: 888.com, 888.co.uk, 888.info
  • Poker: 888poker.com, 888poker.co.uk, 888poker.net
  • Sport: 888sport.com

The practical point is that a web address carrying the 888 name is only licensed if it appears on that list. Look-alike addresses do exist across the industry, and checking the domain tab is the fastest way to rule one out. evoke’s other well-known brands, William Hill and Mr Green, are run under their own licences rather than this one, so you would check those entries separately; see our William Hill slots profile.

What to look for in the 888casino slot lobby

We don’t quote game counts or studio lists for sites we haven’t verified, and 888casino is one of them. The checks below apply to any big lobby, including this one:

  • Studio filter: most lobbies let you sort by developer, which is handy if you already like a maker such as NetEnt or Pragmatic Play.
  • Jackpot labels: a progressive pot shared across many casinos grows differently from a prize funded by one site. Our explainer on how progressive jackpots work sets out the difference.
  • Info screen: the RTP, maximum win and rules for that version of the game live here, not on the lobby tile.

How long £50 lasts on an 888casino slot

The 2.5-second minimum spin time that applies on every British slot is a useful planning tool. Take a £50 budget at 50p a spin: that is 100 spins, which can’t take less than about four minutes of pure spin time. With a 96% RTP, the expected cost of those 100 spins is £2, because the theoretical return on £50 of stakes is £48.

StakeSpins from £50Minimum spin timeExpected cost
10p500About 21 minutes£2
20p250About 10 minutes£2
50p100About 4 minutes£2
£150About 2 minutes£2

Notice that the expected cost of putting £50 through once is the same at every stake. What changes is how quickly it happens and how wide the swings are. Most sessions involve re-staking wins, so total turnover, and therefore expected cost, ends up higher than the starting budget. Our slot budget guide has more worked examples.

888 UK Limited’s regulatory actions

The licensee’s entry lists three regulatory actions, all financial penalties. We set them out neutrally because they are public and relevant to anyone reading the register:

Decision dateOutcomeArea
19 August 2024£23,000 penaltyLicence condition 6.1.2, use of credit cards
7 August 2025£33,075 penaltyIdentification of individual customers (remote)
18 November 2025£86,843 penaltySelf-exclusion

The credit-card case is a reminder of a rule that applies everywhere: credit cards haven’t been allowed for gambling in Great Britain since 14 April 2020, including when they sit behind an e-wallet. Our guide to slot site payment methods covers what is permitted.

Rules every 888casino slot follows

Whatever the brand, a slot served to a British account obeys the same Commission rules. Stakes stop at £5 a spin for over-25s and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. Autoplay, turbo spin and slam-stop are switched off. A spin takes at least 2.5 seconds. Bonus buy features are hidden. Any welcome offer launched after 19 January 2026 can’t ask for more than 10x wagering, and can’t require you to bet on sport to unlock casino rewards.

Safer gambling tools at 888casino

888 UK Limited has to offer the standard British toolkit: deposit limits, time-outs, self-exclusion and participation in GAMSTOP. Since 31 October 2025, new customers must also be prompted to set a deposit limit during sign-up. A reality check reminder, which pops up after a set time to show how long you have played, is another tool worth switching on if the site offers it.

If gambling stops feeling like entertainment, GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133, free and open 24 hours) can help, and our gambling support guide lists NHS services too.

How to confirm an 888 web address is genuine

  1. Copy the exact address from your browser bar, leaving out the secure-connection prefix.
  2. Open the Gambling Commission public register and search for 888 UK Limited or account 39028.
  3. Select the Domain names tab and look for your address on the list, with a status of Active.
  4. Check the Licences tab shows remote casino as Active.
  5. If the address is missing, don’t log in or deposit; report it to the Commission instead.

The same five steps work for any casino. Our full guide to checking a slot site’s licence describes what each register tab tells you.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns 888casino?

888casino is owned by evoke plc, the London-listed group previously known as 888 Holdings. The group was founded in May 1997 as Virtual Holdings and floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2005. In Great Britain the casino is operated by the subsidiary 888 UK Limited, which holds Gambling Commission account 39028 and is based in Gibraltar. evoke also owns William Hill and Mr Green, which run under separate licences. You can check the ownership chain yourself using our guide to reading the UKGC register.

Is 888casino licensed by the UK Gambling Commission?

Yes. 888 UK Limited holds an active remote casino licence on the Commission’s public register, effective since 1 November 2014, and 888casino.com is among the domains listed against its account. The same licence number also covers bingo, real-event betting and, since April 2020, virtual-event betting. A UKGC licence means the site must follow British rules on stake limits, game design, verification and safer gambling. The UKGC glossary entry explains what the regulator does and doesn’t oversee.

Is 888casino the same as 888sport and 888poker?

They are separate products from the same licensed company. 888 UK Limited’s domain list includes 888casino.com, 888sport.com and several 888poker addresses, so all three sit under account 39028. Whether one login works across them, and whether balances are shared, depends on how the group has set up its accounts, and the site’s own help pages are the place to confirm that. For slot players the casino side is what matters, but remember that promotions mixing sport and casino have been banned in Britain since 19 January 2026. See our UK slot rules guide.

Has 888casino been fined?

The licensee’s register entry lists three financial penalties: £23,000 in August 2024 relating to credit card use, £33,075 in August 2025 relating to identifying individual customers, and £86,843 in November 2025 relating to self-exclusion. Each case has a public statement on the Commission’s website setting out what happened. We report these figures as they appear on the register, without scoring the site. Reading the regulatory actions tab is a sensible step when choosing any slot site, alongside checking the licence status and domain list.

Where is 888casino based?

888 UK Limited’s registered head office is at Europort in Gibraltar, as shown on the Commission’s register. Gibraltar is home to many operators that serve British customers, but location doesn’t change the rules: any company offering gambling to people in Great Britain needs a Commission licence and has to meet the same standards as a British-based firm. That has been the law since 1 November 2014. Our guide to spotting unlicensed slot sites explains why offshore sites without that licence are a risk.

What is the RTP on 888casino slots?

There isn’t a single RTP for the site; each slot has its own return figure, and many slots are available in several versions. A game might be released at 96% with optional lower settings such as 94%, and the casino decides which to run. On £100 of stakes, that difference is £2 of expected cost. To find the live figure, open the game and look in its info or help screen before you spin. Our explainer on slot RTP versions shows how to spot which one you are playing.

Can you use a credit card at 888casino?

No. Credit cards can’t be used for gambling with any British-licensed operator, a rule in force since 14 April 2020. That includes paying through an e-wallet or mobile wallet that is itself funded by a credit card. The register shows 888 UK Limited was penalised £23,000 in August 2024 under the licence condition that covers credit card use. Debit cards and other permitted methods are fine, and our guide to slot site payment methods runs through the common options and their usual speeds.

Can I play 888casino slots on my phone?

Most large British operators run their casinos in a mobile browser, and many also publish apps, but we haven’t verified 888casino’s current app listings, so check the App Store or Google Play directly. Remember that real-money gambling apps are allowed on Apple’s UK store only from licensed operators, and on Google Play in Great Britain only from licensed operators Google has approved. Whichever way you play, the app and website share one account, balance and set of limits. Our mobile slots guide covers the differences.
